Long term users of 10w60, Post a Pros/Cons Review

Alot of us have been using 10W60, Just wondering what your thoughts of it are.

I've used for 2 yearly oil changes around 5000 kays per year,

then sent it to the mechanics for a coolant and brake fluid flush and they through in an oil change,

so have had valvoline 15w50 semi syn , not happy with this , especially the 15w bit, and have noticed a slight fuel increase with the 15w50.

So am thinking of going 10w60 again, well got some at $50 per 5l, so will be.

Overall the 10w60 was fine, no gripes either way,

My only concern is it too thick for stock XUV motor with only 60,000 kays on it? was thinking of going 5w50

    Your thoughts would be appreciated

I run full synth 10-60 in both my 6L's one is L98 other is L76 with working AFM. Just put it in my new LS3 that just ticked over a 1000K's. GM recomend 5-40 for all those but I reckon the 10-60 works well in all weather, doesn't appear to affect oil pressure either.

used edge 10w60 in my head cammed L98 loves it, but gone to 5w40 now due to morel tiebar lifters having tighter clearances.

we bought a 09 ss with AFM with 9000kms changed to 10w60 and was a bit rattley with the lifters, ran edge 5w30 and no issues so ran that until 80k with no dramas or issues.

My new Ls3 VF changed oil at 2000kms and have gone 5w40 as I had it in the shed for the L98 and its cold in Adelaide this time of year.
    239/247 goodness............

I will never run a 5w again. After years of trouble free cammed LS motoring the first time I used a 5w40 it munched lifters and the cam. It was an aggressive ramp cam mind you

I use the Edge 5w30 in my V8 Ford because you need very thin oil in them,
actually they recommend 5w20 in them but it scares me to use such thin stuff.

I have been using Edge 10w60 in my old LS1SS for about 6 years & very happy with it.

I wouldn't recommend a 20 weight oil in these engines.

Ive been running the 10w60 in my 6ltr for the past 5 years - certainly keeps things quiet

4 years ago Sonny modified it with heads/cam etc and I still have no issues - jump in turn the key and off we shake

I've started running 10W60 in my RB25DET Neo since early this year on the recommendation from my workshop as I track the car. I just put in some fresh Castrol Edge on Thursday.

So far so good, no complaints.

Not using Edge10W60 again! It made my VZ L76 run really high end hot! (too thick) I thought it was suppose to keep oil temps low! Yes I have an Oil Temp gauge. Ive heard mineral oils are good at absorbing heat, synthetics don't!

Running Penrite 10-60 full synth in my L76 converted to L98 for about 4+ years no noticeable increase in oil temp nor any problems here.

Just had a look in my Holden manual. They recommend 5w-30 for my 2012 Redline. I don't service it so I will ask what oil they use.
Don't suppose there are many vs's or vh's on this forum. I use 10-60 oil in them. They are the same motor and haven't had any
trouble with either or for that matter the Redline

Re: Long term users of 10w60, Post a Pros/Cons Review

I ran 10w40 Magnatec for well over a decade in my bolt on, then heads and cam LS1. The car seemed to like it, I changed to expensive Royal Purple 10w60 on the recommendation of the shop I was using but the valvetrain became really noisy so I drained it and returned to the Magnatec. However then, like macca_779, last year my lifters stuffed up and chomped the cam. Again like macca_779, the original Comp cam did have an aggressive ramp rate. Ive been running Edge 10w60 since then.

@ Red I don't see the difference between the Royal Purple 10w60 and the Edge 10w60 you run now except for the cost?
