In a word. yes. nothing worse while driving than trying to control things on a screen
Some say they are over the top & can be distracting, that it could be easier & safer to just have old style switches.

Have one in both my VF2's & have one in my VZ for the last 7yrs, Yes bit overwhelming at first but you do get use to it! Similar to the heads up display in my VF's but they are soo handy!
Makes like the Mercedes I think play on the fact the original owner (sale) wouldn't be keeping the car beyond warranty anyways.
I've heard some of these screens can get glare/light flashes and be hard to read (reflective), some don't play well with polarised sun glasses. These screens aren't that much different to your phones or tablets, if anything they're probably not as solid - how many of us keep our phones or tablets for longer than 2-3 years, how many of us would leave our phones or tablets sitting in the sun for hours.
Personally, I don't like them because I don't like the look of them, especially the big ones. And I'm a guy who doesn't see my cars as a consumable so I tend to keep my cars for a long time so maintenance costs do play a major factor in my decisions.
Touch screen on my VFII Redline is slow and unresponsive, so that makes it distracting!
The stupid reflective strip along the dash is a terrible idea, as is the top of the gear stick and surround that also reflect the sun,
And climate control is a pain in the ass.
VE SS was a much nicer interior to live with.
