    Only by perception IMHO.

I think to anyone who had never seen the particular movie & knew what it was all about

that car would be no cooler than plenty of other 1960's & 1970's muscle cars.

I wasn't referring to just the Mustang, I was more thinking about McQueen, I mean He just loved his cars, He had some absolute classics, and I've never seen him in a bad movie, except maybe "The Blob",...but really I think Steve McQueen is the coolest actor I've ever noticed.....but honestly, I did LOVE the movie too, as well as what I believe is the greatest motor racing film ever, "LeMans", Steve doesn't do a lot of talking in that film, but the aura He creates is just magic.
So guys, ya gotta excuse me, if ya think I'm an admirer of Steve McQueen, ya'd be right!

Yes, I get you Martin, I agree with you, no argument here.

Was just meaning that the car without the movie would have never been quite so iconic
& that the car on it's own is really no more special than plenty of other old muscle cars IMHO.

What I noticed about that car was that it did not appear to have an LSD,...just one wheel spinning!!!
You are probably aware, that the Mustang actually used in the chase scenes, was slightly modified to help it keep up with the Dodge Charger, which was fitted with a 440!

Yeah, it was single pegging all over the place.

I was always a Chrysler fan rather than a Mustang fan

so I did not really like the end result of the chase when the movie came out.

I always thought that the Charger should have whooped the Mustang.

As for movie cars, I always liked the "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry" & "Vanishing Point" cars more.

Yes, the original "Barry Newman" version is a definite cult movie, I remember when it came out, we were all talking about it, I have the original & also the remake, which is not bad, but nothing compares with the original! I might "feel the need" to watch it myself!
