Boot Subwoofer Box for VE Sedan

My E1 Senator's boot has a 10" subwoofer in a professionally made box fixed to the passenger side of the car not far behind the seats, done as part of an inexpensive but quality sound system upgrade (now also has full E3 iQ system, decent amp and upgraded door speakers). Where it is my manual wheelchair fits in ok, but the NDIS has kindly provided me with a folding electric wheelchair which splits in two so my wife can lift it (I have a fortunately slowly progressing form of MND).

Unfortunately with the subwoofer in the way it's very difficult to fit both parts in so I need to put it in an enclosure similar to the one pictured. The only place I can find them is on eBay from seller baysideautostyling, but they only advertise (amongst other things) one suitable for a 12" subby.

I've emailed them 3 times in the past fortnight asking amongst other things if they do a 10" version, but the slackarses haven't bothered to reply. They're obviously still operating as have plenty of feedback in the last month and 6 month periods.

I'm a bit wary because when I Googled they (or a previous incarnation) are listed numerous times in Mentone but listed as permanently closed, yet their eBay listings say they're in Bairnsdale. That would suit as we have relatives who live up there and save a hefty freight fee, but that was one of the questions I've emailed about with no response.

On the surface they would seem to come across as uncaring or perhaps even shady, yet if their feedback is correct they seem reasonably good.

Anybody know anywhere else who might be able to help please? I like my music but don't need something show quality or sound comp quality, just good quality.

    TIA,
    Gaz

Could try Drive Sound in Moorooka Brisbane (https://www.drivesound.com.au/), they have done stuff like this before and shipped it I think for cars like Golfs etc. Helpful and knowledgeable, will tell you if they can't do it and would more than likely recommend someone local. Send 'em a message.

    Mine was ~$500 fitted, wagon.

Thank you CLUBRED. Was hoping not to even spend that much at the moment (tightarse Jack here) but will contact them.

I probably made it more expensive than it needed to be because I said I didn't want it to protrude passed the boot liner. The back of it has literally been moulded around the cars structure behind the trim panels to get the required volume, its a work of art.

Still in the trying to decide whether/how to proceed. I did find the guys at SSV Street Sound & Vision have the boxes I was after (under their own name but identical to the ones I originally mentioned) so next time I need my folding electric wheelchair in the boot I'll see how much difference in room between the two setups. Yours looks awesome!!!

I have a VY wagon with a Kicker subwoofer under the passenger seat. That works and sounds really good. Have you considered moving the sub from the boot to under the passenger seat? JB sells the Kicker, they have discounts now and then. If you know what you want wait for a discount.

Interesting thought! My SSV ute had a subby behind the passenger seat and that sounded OK. Does the subby under the seat have good oomph in the big volume of a wagon?

Sure does. Turn it up high enough and you can feel it vibrating through the passenger seat.

Had a look at a few. Highly recommended seems to be the Kicker HS8 8" Hideaway but it and most seem to have their own built in amps which I don't need.

It sounds like you need a passive underseat subwoofer.

    https://www.thedrive.com/reviews/312...seat-subwoofer :

    "PASSIVE
Passive underseat subwoofers do not have an internal power system. They require an external amplifier to provide power. An external power source calls for more wiring and this could affect installation as well as placement. However, the good news is if you buy a high-output passive underseat subwoofer and get an amplifier to supply the power, you’ll enjoy brilliant sound. Compared to powered speakers, passive underseat speakers require more wiring. You may have to get a speaker technician to handle the installation".

You may not fit anything under the seat with all the electrics/motors.

I know my SSV ute had the amp under the passenger seat and subby behind it. The Senator has the amp under the driver's seat but don't think many subwoofers would sit under the passenger seat. The Pioneer TS-SWX2002 seems OK as a subby but doubt it would fit. 5 1/2" deep.

You could go back to the twin 8" free air setup with a driver designed for this placement, just make the shelf a bit more solid, dampen etc. Friend of mine has this setup with an amp and sounds better than you'd think.

And while I think of it, don't discount how much room there is under the parcel shelf. When I had my Calais we ran a level from the back of the boot opening to the back of the sheet metal behind the seat and with some clever box building we had enough box volume for 2 8's (either firing the cone of the speaker into the cabin, face down into the boot.
