Sorry, that should read magnet firing into the cabin.

And while I think of it, don't discount how much room there is under the parcel shelf. When I had my Calais we ran a level from the back of the boot opening to the back of the sheet metal behind the seat and with some clever box building we had enough box volume for 2 8's (either firing the cone of the speaker into the cabin, face down into the boot.
Thanks - that's something I will discuss with the guy who built the box and installed everything for me - somehow hanging it down from the rear parcel shelf where it won't take up valuable floor space.

I can vouch for that somewhat, I have that setup too in my VZ. I assume the VE won't be much different?

Don't flame me for it, but I'm just using the Holden Calais original 'cheapo' 8" 50w subs. Aftermarket would be better but I've found that with good mounting, ie scrapping the plastic rubbish mounts altogether (which chocked the woofer from breathing properly imo) and using some 18mm MDF instead, and with careful crossover and phase adjustments to cut out some of that cheap upper bass, it sounds quite good.
Not as good as a boxed sub of course and won't blow your ears with high db, but you get a fairly nice deep bass and lose zero boot space. Win win for me.
