Sounds as though the battery isn't holding sufficient charge (might have a dead cell or two). Try a new battery - or use another that you know is ok.
I have a 1995 VS Statesman Caprice Its been parked in the garage for about 6 months and the battery has gone flat. I've charged up the battery but the starter motor doesn't operate. Most of the dial lights function and the car seems to undergo its start up checks. The security light is flashing. Just wondering if there are any security feature/s that may have activated that prevents the beast from purring. It was driven into the garage when it was parked and everything seemed to be going well then. Thanks

If you have both keys, I would try the other key. it may not be communicating with the security ring on the ignition barrel
VS Caprice=great car, not many nice original ones left, so I wish you good luck in getting it mobile again.
Pickles.
