Re: Another car added to the caryard

I need to get a longer single hex the one i have goe's into an adapter for half inch drive the boots on the shafts get in the road i do have an air powered rattle gun might look at it again tomorrow .
Did a bit of googling and got some info tips from there and now i can see what i have to do ,unfortunately i have no help at all it's me .
Back issues don't help in a driveway but i will sort it out after having a coffee and a rest i can see a clear path to do what i have to do ,plus i need a longer flat 17 mm ring spanner for the 4 top bolts .but i need to remove the tail shaft first ,i havent really worked on doing major things to cars since my early 20's i am slightly older now by 38 years and i had my Brother to help as he was a Mechanic .
I will take advice help from anyone that can help ,thank you for the idea's you have given once this is done it may need some new rubber on the rear after i am done.
I can fix the speedo as it will be out so no problem there .

You will be best off talking to Dave at EPS to get the speedo setup done
as he has all the gear, even the license for tuning your ECU from when he tuned it.

Should be able to sort that one out in around 10 minutes.

You will like the 3.7 diff gears, will feel like the car has an extra few horsepower.

So here we are again we cannot remove the Torx bolts that hold the tailshaft to the yoke they will not budge ,we did remove the other 3 bolts that just created another issue ,the other way i think is to remove the exhaust then i have access to the diff yoke .
I guess i can use the rattle gun to see if i can remove them one exhaust is out of the way.
Not much progress but i guess you learn along the way ,don't want to remove the whole cradle.

Sounds like a hell of a job to be doing in the driveway mate, I do not envy you. One thing to check whilst you have the tailshaft out would be the centre bearing. When we I had the diff done in the ute we found the centre bearing was seized to the tailshaft. I ended up finding a V8 ute tailshaft at a Commodore wreckers in Salisbury, it was out a stato that had just come in that day (ie different to the sedan as long wheel base). Point is my old tailshaft was cactus due to the centre bearing and even an engineering place I spoke with could not rule out destroying it whilst trying to remove the centre bearing. So cheap to replace whilst it is out if you can remove the centre bearing easily and will save you arse pain in the future

Thankfully the centre bearing was replaced when he bought it same as the rubber diff mount shaft is going to have to come out i think ,dropping the exhaust is not much of a pain ,probably should have taken it somewhere to do this ,but this is a learning exercise for Kyle he can see what happens when you break things and decide to do it at home ,i just don't know why the 3 torx bolts are so damn tight ,loctite is my guess .
4bolts 1 hanger rubber and the exhaust will be out of the road that will help as it runs right under the yoke that should help tomorrows job .
I will look at the centre Bearing and see what it looks like .
Awhile back our SS needed the centre bearing replaced found a shaft on Market place for $25.00 still have the original in the Garage.

Re: Another car added to the caryard

Short update its not out yet, issues with undoing bolts and not being able to get to bolts.
Yesterday was a sht day all round today progress is good.
I do need to drop the exhaust, not an issue that's easy just so i can get to the front 2 top bolts on the diff and go from there the back ones are loose.
Bought an extra long 17mm flat ring spanner boy that worked a treat with that.
Just doing a bit daily, need to replace some bolts drive shaft some are nearly round and not hex, tailshaft bolts and atleast 1 top bolt so far.

Well i got it out the 2 front bolts what a pain ended up inventing a spanner by accident the back ones easy enough ,that's all for today happy with what i have managed to do in the driveway .
Going to go through the bolts and see what needs replacing and might need a LHS shaft not sure just yet .
Pretty sure i can get it back together with a little help this time atleast getting the diff in the and the exhaust the rest pretty easy .

Re: Another car added to the caryard

Well this is a pain, drive shafts that don't fit i have 3 of them one fits in both sides with out issue.
I swapped things around figured that i had an issue with the shaft that wasn't broken.
So i bought another one, it didn't fit either no way in hell left or right side after pulling out what hair i have left in chucked them in the car and went up Salisbury to see Dave, have been there numerous times already.
Dave great guy said drop the rear shock and that should give room, with a bit of fiddling it dropped in.
Using the shaft i bought the other one will not fit at all.
So it's in bolted up rubber nut on diff full of oil drive shafts in and tight need a check after i do what's left, what a job.
    That's all for today.
