    Hello my friend.
I'm showing my age, I reckon I saw Harrops Howler in the 60s, at Fishermans Bend. his car was black I think, from memory. The Fishermans Bend Drags, whilst very "crude" by today's standards, were a lot of fun....and there were some memorable cars there too, some of which survive to this day, Dave Bennett's "Perfectune Premier 186S" being one! I was a member of The Thunderbirds Hot Rod Club in those days, and many of the members would compete in their Rods there.

His father (my grandfather) had an Austin too... an A30 (yeah what Peter Brock stuffed a 6 cyl ino and went racing)
but went.. so says family folklore, I cannot be outdone!

He want out a bought a BRAND NEW* FJ Holden. Same colour as pictured... we too had an FX and FJ in the family at the same time.
    ah memories!

*the FJ quickly racked up huge milage numbers! He got transferred (as a minister of religion) from Oakleigh in Melbourne
to Bowen in FNQ. That thing did more than half a dozen trips back and forth as he shifted house using the FJ for the move

I do recall the Fishermans Bend drags (it was on the old runway there from WWII) but don't have the Howler in my recall.

I do remember seeing Ash MArshalls originla 'VANDAL' dragster run there... noise, fumes and smoke with each run with
spectators standing around next to the strip. Yeah, very crude! NO Armco and safety fencing in those days !
