    Critical Part Availability

Thought I would post this as a warning to others. I had an incident with my VU SS Ute last week where the fuel filter detached from the hardline connector obviously rendering the car immediately dead. We pushed it into a servo and managed to jack it up and get the filter back on and secured with cable ties. Now this is where the real fun begins. I ordered a genuine NOS filter kit just to get the fuel line retainer clips and new filter holder (Ryco for LS1 comes with filter only, no clips or retaining strap). Took it in this morning to Ultra Tune for what we thought would be 10 minutes work on the hoist and the clips that come with the filter are way too big. The old clips which may be the originals are rotten and obviously why it fell off. Now this morning I have been to every auto shop in Adelaide and no one stocks the correct size ie No filtetrt they stock comes with that size clip. Car is now on the hoist until Monday when Holden spares open to see if they can source 2 of these 20 cent clips. Right about now I am seriously considering moving both Holden's on, how can a part like this render a car completely useless.

The white clip came with the OEM Filter and may fit VY and onwards, I am unsure.

Update. Just found a Sakura filter with clips listed for V6 and 5 litre V8. The clips look like mine in the photos. Hoping that Holden stuck with these clips when they first went LS1 in VU SS and then changed with VY.
    Time will tell.

Not yet Ed. The Sakura filter came today with the oversized white clips rather than the smaller black that were advertised with it. I rang them and they got their warehouse to check a heap of filters and advised that they found one with black clips. They have sent it to me express post today free of charge which was good of them. Just hoping like hell they are the correct clips. I also may have found a V8 ute at a wreckers out north, so will check that out tomorrow. Upullit only have V6 commodores in stock which have a smaller filter that will not seal inside the fuel lines on a V8. Last resort will be to cut the connectors off and use fuel line with EFI clamps, trying our best to avoid that option though.

Well, the saga is over. This morning I thought I would have a wander around Upullit Elizabeth (the only one I had not checked). I was not at all hopeful but thought what the hell, nothing to lose. Anyway, whilst wandering amongst what is left of all the V6 Commodores like a fkn Oasis in the desert is this white 2003 VY SS Ute. This thing was pretty much just a shell, but a quick look under the drivers side rear wheel arch revealed 1 x Ryco filter with fuel lines attached. Anyway, I cut off the two lines so I can get it out in the open and then removed the quick connects from the filter to reveal two pristine black clips. So straight to Ultra tune where Geoff with the precision of a surgeon cuts them out of the old connectors and fits them to mine. Filter on and the rest is history. What a relief.

And yes there is more. I get home to find Allied Auto Parts have expressed another filter from their Brissy Warehouse and you guessed it, inside are these fkn unicorn clips that apparently no one has ever seen in real life lol.
