I just traded my Series 1 VY S for a VE Calais V6. The VY was fitted with a Powerchip, 2.5" Single Exhaust, sports muffler and Hi Flow air cleaner. Made for a nice performance upgrade with good economy.
I am looking to do something similar with the Calais and open to suggestions on the best way to go. Economy is important when I am traveling from Canberra to Sydney in cruise mode but I am not adverse to a nice sting in the tail should I fell like putting the boot in. A bit more tone to the exhaust note would be good as well.
And yes, I do know that the Powerchip was not the best option.....
Thanks in advance.
supercharge it
Congrats on the new addition they are great cars.. Sorry mate I don't know a lot about the 6 cylinder VEs specifically but I'm sure the sponsors section of this forum could help you out..
To a degree it depends on what you want out of it (drag, twisties, bit more go on the highway general) but I would have thought that regardless of 6 or 8 the mods reigime of the two two would be similar. Headers, good sorst; Then a diff change will get you a bit of zing regardless of power (do a bit of research if going this way), for all I know a stallie may also be a consideration if you really want to launch it. Then do a complete tune/edit in keeping with you want.. The edit will certainly improve economy..
The above are only suggestions, I wouldn't go for cam if you want to keep economy, but on a six I could be wrong. I'm sure others will soon let us know LOL...

Thanks for the suggestions. In response to the V8 response.... I know this borders on sacrelige but I have been there done that, had a ball and now don't really need one.
The current crop of V6's are not a bad compromise at all, I just know from experience that the manufacurers build to a price and there is always room for improvement.
So, to my next question, can anyone recomend a good tuner in ACT or Sydney as well as a compenet exhaust specialist.
Thanks
Peter
I spoke to Sureflo and they had nothing for a v6 VE. They said probably not really high on their agenda also. GM headers which i emailed said they are working on headers and exhaust but was still in testing phase probably as the v6's now have a dual exhaust.
I'm also waiting to see what happens with the headers and exhaust as the v6's seem a little restricted.
well if you dont need the power of the V8 then why do u wanna make the V6 faster? you mite be able to work the 6 to a point where its as fast as a standard v8(without spending to much) but then you might aswell of just got a 8? even if just for the sound..
But as for the 6 all the usuals.. intake, exhaust, tune and diff gears.. should get it rockin.
As for someone to do the work im sure there is a forum sponsor in your area.. you could even get some extractors made along with a custom exhaust.
If it was my V6, I'd start with a custom dual exhaust.
She'd definately sound better and you may get some more horses to play with.
