looking good gary ,i just wired up my actuators today ,just waiting for the hardlid [monday]just thinking about the hinge problem, did you see the ve ute in the brochure, the rams were bolted at the rear facing foward, which i guess would push towards the hinge maybe be keeping it tight, not sure which is the right way to mount them but facing rear like you have them would be pushing the lid out of the hinge maybe.?

just had a look at the video from the supplier [www.autoremotehardlid.com.au]im pretty sure the rams have to face foward,it will also give you more lift.

Yep, that was one of the things which puzzled us so in the end we rang the installer through the guy who supplied them and he said that VE have to go the other way. Given my lack of speech I wasn't the one who rang but that's for whatever reason what we were told - I would like to know why. That's the way I originally wanted to have them as I knew the tongue and slot type hinge would otherwise be a problem.

This is the link I was sent by the kit supplier for an actual VE installation in operation. Maybe they found some problem with the other way????

well im confused ,il call a1 tint tomorrow and see what he says,i guess its no big deal to try the other way ,its only 3 bolts.i wasnt impressed with the mounting brackets, they offer stainless steel optional im going to have a look at them as well .they sure are neat though .
just thinking the factory hinge is a pin type so backwards facing would be ok ,but for the flat lid like ours with the tounge hinge .foward facing would be the go ,and it does lift higher ,should have mine set up tomorrow so il let you know.

Actually I've just heard that it's no big deal - can be done either way. The advantage to the way I now have is that it pulls the back down tighter for security and I can see that being the case. Now that I have the thing set up that way I'll leave it and just get some EGR type pinned hinges which I'll be much happier with than the tongued ones - was never really happy with them.

Am sure it's Atomic. Just looks different due to way light is catching it.

Oops! Knew that sounded wrong when I typed it - Crunch is what I meant!

More info: On an existing hardlid the actuators should go same way as the existing struts. The difference with mine is that before my lid was made I knew I'd be getting actuators so the guy making the hardlid contacted the actuator kit guy to find out where best to put the mounting points to suit. Given the extra security with facing them to the back the mounts were fitted accordingly.

Thanks Stach. Do you mean the new style SSV badge itself which I don't mind at all? Or the actual AFM badges which are and were removed ASAP?

I reckon with new style hinges wonk's, the lid will open evenly. Can't wait till you get the gate actuator and see the complete package operational.

Me either! New hinges are being fitted Saturday morning and according to the guy selling the kits the tailgate one is all ready to go and I should have it soon.

    Re: The WonkyUte (SSV)

Last Saturday at Chev's Big Rob kindly removed the extra intake valley cover now added to the MY9.5 (and MY9.0?) cars that weren't on the early models. My daughter went out and took a few pics for me earlier so I've included one below.

At first it doesn't look much different to before (bottom picture) but then look at where the silver pipe across the intake now sits in the slot, plus how much better the oil filler cap sits now. If you look closely you can also see how much better the points of the cover sit in the grooves along the intake now that the extra cover has been removed.

The tailgate actuator should arrive at Chev's tomorrow or Wed and once fitted it will make things easier again for me!
