    Re: Cross-6>8 swap

    Today!
Spent the day out in the front paddock ripping out tree stumps with the Tractor, some Genius thought it was a good idea to cut them off flush with the ground and over the years there's been some errosion so each time you Mow it's like a minefield....

Only one of em put up a serious struggle and after bending the bucket tooth I dug around it some and cut it with the chainsaw...

Other than that I tidied up the shed a little, I have to go to one of the bigger towns tomorrow to collect a Torx Plus Driver so I can pull the Bell housings off both Trans then swap out the Front shafts/Drums/Stator shafts.

Once that's done I'll start pulling the Dash out of the Tonner so I can install the new Main loom ready for the L98.

LOL I have a 1/4 drive one that worked for that being a normal Torx, these Torx+ bullshit things are a joke

The External Bellhousing bolts on the V6 are Torx head but an 11mm 12 point worked for them..

Seems a bit strange using torx on the bellhousing, even stranger using torx +
I'm guessing you'll be replacing them with hex bolts.

If I've got the tooling here I'll leave em in place, it's only a PITA because I've never had a reason to use/buy Torx+ drivers, have a few normal Torx sets of course...(and bellhousing swaps shouldn't be a service item)

When I built the Toyota Trans adaptor I used cap screws as there wasn't enough room for hex heads/sockets.

Did a bit of research on Trans rebuild kits/upgrade parts for the 4L60e, tons available just have to make a shopping list one day and place an order in the States, makes a nice change dealing 1:1 on the $, MUCH better than 56c!

Guess I'll make a start on labelling wiring and connectors tomorrow and get ready to pull the dash, might also see if I can hunt up a better dash for this thing as the Cross6 one is very basic.

Yes, plenty of 3 window dashes out there, just make sure it is the same vintage as your existing dash as the VZ ones aren't backwards compatible (fuel gauge reads backwards I thonk).. plenty of info on here about the VY/VZ dash upgrades.

    Re: Cross-6>8 swap

The guy I bought the E38 PCM from seems to think the existing dash is going to have the fuel gauge calibration issue with the PCM swap.....

Not sure if that signifies the Tonner got the early style firmware or not
(supplied him with my VIN so he could check)

Adventra has the 3 window and it's just nicer all round, I'd like the better climate control as well but it's not a show stopper.

    Today!
Started pulling the Dash out of the Tonner and found it's easier to gutt the interior as well so the Seats and Console came out, next issue was how to get the Radio and Airbag out....

Quick search online and it was all revealed, after lunch I'll go back out and start labelling everything then pull the Dash out and see about running the new Loom into the engine bay...

Recently done a similar three window swap with a HSV unit on my Tonner. You will need to have the new cluster cal'd with the correct part no to suit your Tonner's fuel tank. Make sure your new cluster is as close to the build date as your vehicle. EG series 1 & series 2 are different.
Clusters do have year & month on reverse side adjacent the connector.
If you need the Cal part no I should have it here somewhere.

    Cheers

    Thanks for that!

Any info that helps would be great!
(I came across your thread this morning while I was searching)

Side note: Looks like the Brickie that owned it before me managed to break the rear screen... I'll clean it up properly now the interiors out, broken glass and sand everywhere.

Ok the fella who cal'd mine got two part no's
    1. 92174078 = Cab Chassis

    2. 92174079 = utility

For some reason this guy used the Ute cal & appears to be ok, I thought the Cab Chassis would have been the correct one though? let me know if you'd like a copy of the tech sheet probably email it to you?
Would appreciate down the track if you could let me know what one you ended up using?

    Cheers

    Today End!

Got a bit done, need some ferrets to work out what else holds this Dash in, debadged the car then pulled the washer bottle out so I could clean it's screen, used to have to flick the steering side to side to get it to flow... NFI what the layer was on it.

    Today!
Ok Loom and Dash are out, ended up having to cut the old Loom

I'll DePin the Engine bay Fuse box on the new Loom and feed it through, Holden must thread the Loom through the hole in the Fireway before Bonding it into the shell as there's no way possible to get the Fuse panel and Horseshoe through the hole with the Strut Tower in the way!

I'm finding a few differences in the Looms already, I bought one for a VZ CrossTrac Crewman thinking it would be damn close..
(i.e. No glovebox illumination wiring at all, no biggie I can splice that in, more of a concern is no connector for what looks like a G Sensor mounted in the middle of my car on the trans tunnel.

I'll confirm that's what it is then trace the old loom and find out what it connects to.... ****it if I'd known it was going to be this much of a PITA I wouldn't have gone ahead but I'm too far into it now to turn back...
