    Car show Comments

I was at a car show the other week going through with everyone else and it was interesting to listen to some of the comments.

One guy was looking at a CV8Z monaro on show and made the comment its just a two door commodore. Yet next to it was a 1970 monaro and thought it was tops.

Isn't the 1970 Monaro just a two door Kingswood if thats the case. Obviously not.

So what makes the old one not a two door Kingswood with that train of thinking.

There is no difference, people just overlook that fact.

I think one gripe is the the new Monaro has a pillar in the middle which spoils the view, as said in the 1968 HK Commercial "and no central pillar to spoil your view".

the HK- HG didnt look anywhere close to a 4 door kingswood, but upon looking at the new Monaro it does look abit similar to a 4 door VT Commodore. thats my 2c but I still bought one!

Mate, everyone has different opinions so dont stew over what some other bogan says. In 40 years people will oogle the CV8 as well.

Try having your own car at the car show and hearing people pick it to death. Thats rough.

My advice is if your keeping your eye on your car at a show, make sure you stand far enough away so you cant hear what people say about it. Although their facial expressions still say a thousand words, especially when they see an LS1 in a 40 year old Datsun.

Sure in 30-40 years time they would probably change their thoughts but it could be that you see them at the shopping centers so no big deal. The pillar in the way does detract from the lines a bit as well.

Mate excellent observation! Yes no matter what they say, a VII Monaro is just a 2 door Commodore, and that is the way I like it! It is meant to be. (really there is not much in the way of change over parts though)

People who don't think that an HK-X is not a 2 door Kingswood/Premier is kidding themselves as well. For me it was part of the appeal back then, fast 2 door Kingswoods (called Monaro's) winning Bathurst and all! Michael Pate stepping out of his "police issue" Monaro on Matlock police. It made you feel all warm and fuzzy when you went for a ride next time in Dads Kingswood as you had a sense of identity with the 2 door because of how they looked on the race track and on TV. They did not look like the great American Camaro or Firebirds, they just looked like the humble Kingswood. It is why the Aussie psyche is the way it is today and help forge the great division between Holden and Ford supporters alike. Hell even Ford used to use the link to the early Mustang for their 60's Falcon, but to me they couldn’t look further apart although I do get whole underpinnings and running gear bit though.

Tell me what this HK is

and this HQ is a ???

Sorry about the full size image, can this be down sized?
The fact that they were available with the humble 161 and as a column change 3 speed manual from new from the start dose it for me, as not all HK Monaro's came with a Chev (the roots of the badge swap that happens today) but you could be fooled into thinking this as that is all you ever see these days.

And while I am at it, is this also a 2 door Kingswood???

It says so on the number plate People need to get a grip on the motoring history and heritage in this country which is as unique as the kangaroo itself. We could never have afforded to build then or now special stand alone platforms like the Camaro and Mustangs because of the economies of scale in this country.

I like the current Camaro but I loved the Coupe 60 concept for the same reasons as above. What would have happened if it went into production and they did not call that a Monaro?Would people still have called it a 2 door Commodore??? I hope so!

    Cheers Mikey

    Re: Car chow Comments

I can relate a story from way back in the dark ages
    (late 70's early 80's)

I had a HQ Coupe with a Crower injected 427 BBC as a street toy, we used to hit all of the street drags in and around Melbourne every Friday/Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon.

Car had a big cam a High Stall and very little in the way of mufflers so alweays attreacted a crowd anywhere I went or parked, one night after the Mole had been cleared out we headed for Macca's on the Hume at Fawkner, I parked and wandered off to eat my food.

Was standing at the back of the crowd listening to some of the conversations, a couple of guys were saying how it had a 9" and typical of "Holden guys" it probably had a Top Loader as well, I smiled and said "Nah it has a TH400" they looked at me and said "how would you know"... dangled the keys and just smiled back

People will ALWAYS have opinions that's what makes our hobby interesting, it would be boring as if everyine thought/built the same things...

I had a Black HK Belmont ute with a 307 and 4 speed, load leveller spring/shock combination on the rear(coilovers I guess),alloys and front and rear sway bars.Cornering was like a rocket sled on rails
Broke my heart when it was knocked off, then recovered and paid out.The smash repairer that got it must have had a mate at the insurance company. It was only stripped, all the parts were there they just needed bolting back on

Car show comments are off the mark but try going to an airshow and listen to the things most people say/guess about aircraft. You would think that if they are gonna just guess about things they would say it in private or actually ask someone who has some idea.

Yeah its always funny to hear what comments float around at car shows.Every one has a different opinion but some people can
try to push there opinion to much.If they argue it to much i just nod and agree.

Can vouch for that. I went to last years Avalon show as a spectator for once. I did manage to resist opening my mouth to correct every second person that becomes an expert every two years.

Haha the amount of arguments ive had with people trying to tell them that the 280 gallon external fuel tanks on a Blackhawk arnt bombs is ridiculous, people always like to think there smarter than everyone rather than saying they dont know and actually learning something lol

    Cheers
