Yes there are a lot of ignorant drivers no doubt about there. I drive a VE SS. I'm worried about chassis damage too.

I remember you starting a thread on it and me telling you about an R8 wagon with towbar I'd seen at Chev's which had been written off because even though there looked to be very minimal damage the tow bar had transferred the force of the impact and bent the chassis rails. Was yours written off too?

So would you say having a tow bar is a good thing when your rear ended or bad? I mainly leave mine in for that exact reason (i drive around 65-70km each way to work amongst some real f***tards)

Hi Wonky, your memory is sharp! Unfortunately mine was not written off, it got fixed with new rail ends welded in. I was very concerned initially but when my repairer showed me what it involved for those rail ends to be replaced I was a little more at ease, especially given that it was an extended rail welded in the factory, not a continuous section. I have a lot of faith in my repairer as a feel his workmanship and attention to detail is second to none. I would have liked it to be written off, but it didn't work out that way. I'm beginning to think the wagon is jinxed, it's had 2 rear end hits and today I very nearly got T-boned by a guy that went thru a red light...

To the OP, is your SS a sedan, ute or wagon?

    Regards,

    Hos

    Hi Hos.

Mine is a sedan. Hopefully the damage won't be as bad as yours. Hayman Reece tow system.

    Hi

    what a coincidence.. NOT..

i was rear - ended on friday on way home from work.

I pulled up at a yellow light. The car behind me had plenty of space to stop ( a few car lengths)

ANd BANG. Straight in the rear.. so far it looks good but i havent had it assesed yet. I doesnt look like there was any panel damage at all and apart from the bumper popping out a bit anbd the bumper support panel veing pushed in slightly, it all looks good ( i hope ). I would hate there to be underbody damage etc. Its a VY but has low k's (107K) and is in very good nick so i would have really hayed for it to be written off. (its only worth bugger all)

Good luck with the repairs on your ride OP.

I'm under the impression that wagons are much more likely to fold the rear rails than a sedan, so you might be lucky. How hard was the hit? Mine was hit hard enough to bend the tow bar downwards, tailgate was all folded and difficult to open, door gap on right hand passenger had tightened right up.

Best of luck and glad no one was hurt.

    Thanks Angeldust.

It must be the season for it. Hopefully yours is OK.

Where were you when you got hit?

It wasn't hit that hard. Towbar speared her radiator so I'm hoping the chassis etc was not impacted too badly. Is yours fixed now?

    Re: Rear Ended

i was in an accident very early Christmas day, after being out Christmas eve. 5 people in my dads work car and a boot load of presents. sitting at the lights, straight road a few lanes wide and no one around. lights turned green so had just started rolling and then BANG, got slammed across the intersection. so lucky the lights just went green other wise who knows what could have happened. the guy couldn't speak to start with and we weren't sure if it was shock or drugs/alcohol. turned out that he was well under the influence of something and the cops took him away. didn't have an Australian license either and was a student who had been around long enough. another car pulled up to see if we were OK and they told us they were driving behind him for about 1km and his indicator still hadn't gone off from the last turn he made (been driving on a straight road for 1km) and he was also on his phone

overseas student, unlicensed, drunk, on the phone, pushed across an intersection 1sec after it was red, was thinking about driving off but couldn't see past his air bag...thankful to be OK on Christmas day!
the problem with common sense is it's not that common

    Re: Rear Ended

Bugger!! That sort of stuff is the reason I've just got a black box videocam delivered from HSV Listy (Tony) with 1080p recording, GPS and Google maps, so if ever I'm in an accident that's not my fault there is proof and it doesn't get blamed on my disabilities. All up cost by the time it's hard wired in by an auto elec with the wiring concealed and no cord dangling from the cigarette lighter to it will not be a lot more than half my excess - good value I reckon if it saves my excess!!

Bloody overseas "students" seem to account for a high proportion of stupid accidents from what I've seen/heard. He'll probably be on the next plane home.

Sorry I missed this Dan. I hope all is ok. There are some real clowns on the road.

It really annoys me that people simply dont seem to think about others when driving.

I am interested in something. I (as we all do) know people that have been done for speeding. I dont know anybody who has been pulled over and fined for the law about doing below the speed limit. I'm interested to know if anybody here knows someone thats been done for it.

No worries Adam - all OK so far. The repairer is getting parts organised at the moment. Still don't know if there's been any structural damage - hopefully I'll know that tomorrow.

In response to your question - I haven't heard of anyone.
