Unless we paid Holden to be here, they would have been packed up and long gone, and with Commodore going, good riddance to them.

Hopefully some of those on 3 x pay rates will drop $200K on the new Omega with a $10K crate engine in it.
At around $150K margin per car they wont need to sell more than half a dozen to break even on the project. The rest is pure cream

However this may be one of the 'last good things' as those of you that voted man-marrying Bobby Brown into power to protect your 3 x pay rates have effectively killed the Commodore and the Aussie V8 car. Interesting isnt it!

Hence why I made the switch from sitting in an office designing civil works to being onsite. Pay, tax benefits, job security and other perks made it worthwhile

Maybe you heard of the GFC. It caused one or two "issues" around the world, and people were pulling money out of everything.

Those who suffered most from the GFC probably weren’t intending to buy a W427.
Everyone else in Australia just continued on as if nothing happened.

Every enthusiast and his dog knows that if HSV release a supercharged HSV, it WILL be limited edition, and it WILL be expensive.
HSV's range has some pros and cons, just as FPV's has some pros and cons. For people utterly obsessed with the motor aspect and not much else, well, there's only one answer I guess, and it sounds a little like yours...

Agree the engine isn’t everything, many other aspects of the vehicle play a part in the purchased decision.
You’ve given a good example as to why a high priced special edition HSV can’t compete in the higher market segment.
Most who want one can’t afford one and most of those who can, opt for something offering much more than just straight line speed for their money.
HSV may trump the FPV in some areas but be assured the HSV suffers the same fate when trying to compete in the Euro/Jap performance vehicle price points.


GFC killed W427 …….
It was the wrong car for the wrong market and a supercharged model will possibly suffer the same fate.
Its price point will be the most important decision HSV will make during its development.

GFC didnt kill the W427. The fact is it was terrible value for money in a market segment with some truly good cars in it. People saw through it as a cynical marketing exercise. SS or Clubby is where its at.

We were going to buy a W427 when released, saw the pricing, started laughing, and bought a GTR instead for the same coin (less actually)

Its not about the straightline performance, because in the cold hard light of day W427 didnt really have any.
That was the problem, most anything in its class, kicked its butt.

If you bought a w427 to collect & pass onto the kids, not a bad choice imo , if you bought one because it was a good car & worth the coin you've got rocks in your head, M3, merc, Gtr thats where its at, some people are just so badge orientated they cant see the light. Maybe the ducks nut for the guys at top gear Au but in real life its like paying $150.00 for a big mac with a special special sauce.

Contrary to the opinions of the vocal minority on internet forums, some people are actually proud to be Australian, and bought the W427 because they are proud that the boys from Clayton had the balls to produce such a car against the high budget imports. It's a disgrace that people constantly cane HSV for taking risks, and a few on here need a good hard look at themselves and their sh!t attitudes. It might not be the car for you, but it wouldn't hurt trying to be positive once in a while in life fellas. Just because you can't see the value doesn't mean you are "right". Not everyone wants a 150K car that tastes like rice or funny sausage.
