As long as your not a women you will be fine.
So i have landed a few tickets to attend the F1 at Yass Marina abu dhabi this year. What I want too know is if any one here has travelled to that part of the world. I am heading there with a few mates so would like to know people experiences in the UAE. IE drinking laws, night life, do's and don'ts. Any insight would be great.
Cheers

very westernized these days. i was there about 2 weeks ago, fantastic place! make sure you go to ferrari world and go on the formula rossa coasterand if your there long enough (before or after the f1) you might be able to do some of the passenger or driver experiences they have which are awesome! check out their website.

the problem with common sense is it's not that common
Will be there also.
52 yo grey haired groupy following #47 for SBR(ssshhhh! )
If you head down the V8 pits give me a shout.
Also like to know any tips for tourists there
i didnt know what to expect but it was very easy. very westernized. majority of the people in all the normal / everyday type jobs are from other countries like malaysia, india etc, the locals ie UAE people arent really out and about that much during the day and they hold all the high end jobs so tend to travel in private and in high end / private places...or so i was told whilst there
the problem with common sense is it's not that common
Thanks for the replies guys. Google has been my best friend in this one, but hearing real encounters has helps out a lot.
Thanks again.

As others have said its very westernised and as long as you don't go causing any trouble it won't find you. People are generally very nice and accomodating.. As for places to go Ferrari world is definately on the list can't say personally that it was that great (mainly due to both the fastest rides having their yearly maintenance done when I was there) it has all the usual thing to see the best being the ferrari museum and the giftshop (anyone interested in a Ferrari F1 V10 engine for $80,000?) One thing you have to do is have a go on the simulator, there is a free one but the more 'upspec' version will cost an extra 85 aed and book out quickly so try and get in early as you get to sit in an f1 or f430 racecar.
Not sure what you are into but they have an open top hop on hop off bus tour (225aed) that departs from Marina Mall every 30 mins or so and will take about 2.5 hrs to go around the island. Best place I found on the tour was the grand mosque (free) they also have guided tours every so often.
Night life is quite spectacular. All the pubs are situated in hotels to cater for western guests.. Some of my favourites were the warehouse, 3rd avenue and PJ Oreileys.. Wednesday or Thursday is usually ladies night. One place that I urge you to avoid is called The Trap.. No guessing what goes on in that place haha!! If you are up for it Ray's bar in emirates tower is the place to be.. Expensive (1000aed) to just sit by the window so it's easier to get a cocktail at the end of the bar and look at the view that way.. The lobby is a sight to behold!! If you are feeling adventureous try out an indian belly dancing bar, there are a couple situated close the the warehouse, which is between the german and canadian embassies and Abu Dhabi mall. Most places will close at 3.30/4.00am on weekends which is Friday/Saturday..
I assume you and your mates will be catching taxis around the place?? If so the silver ones are the way to go and are generally (but not always) safer as their speed is monitored by gps and the taxi fares are set rates per km... The drivers dont speak much English but have a Relatively good idea where things are.. One tip is to always use a place name, never a street address as they have no idea of the street numbering system (same as Manhattan grid pattern)
One website to check out is www.grapeshisha.com it has a good list of things to see and do and is easy to read. Also try checking out some of the English expat websites as they have lots of insightful local information.
I'm excited now......
Cant wait, make sure to let me know if anyone else is there so we can catch up
