I looked at the Ausmotive link in the original start post which has the press release from Toyota ,bigger than reading War and Peace - no thank's
Typically fitted with Toyota benchmark pizza cutter wheels. Pump the guards a bit more with staggered rims and boost that sucker. Looks like a new gen Celica IMO, but good to see that it has rear wheel drive. Is the horizontally mounted engine to allow for future AWD applications?

Toyota previously stated that they intentionally fitted narrow rims and modest grip eco tyres to assist the drift aspect they have heavily marketed.
Should do brilliantly at that pricing. The market for coupes is quite cyclical, but MX5 has proved for over 20 years that there is a market for modest performing, affordable, sweet handling small rear wheel drive coupes. Not everyone looks for steroid induced brochure outputs from the factory.
Pretty sure it has similar tyres to a Prius. From all reviews it is about the best handling car around and personally if I were in the market for a small fun car I would take this every day of the week over a fwd hit hatch.
AAMI hasn't posted a premium price yet, that is going to be the crunch especially for P Plater's
AAMI says I can put it on my current insurance till they can work out a price then adjust the policy later

There will be so much aftermarket goodness for this thing that an enthusiast buyer wouldn't even give two hoots about ANYTHING that it currently has on it because 40% of the car is destined for the tip!

there is a good close-up photo on Noble Toyota's website,I think there is enough flare in the guard to be able to go to a small offset in the rims and still be able to go lower also
I think you're dead right, $30K this will become THE car for modifying. Cheap, RWD and the engine has a long history of modification in turbo guise. If a non turbo Suburu flat four fits, surely one of Subaru's turbo flat fours will fit and then owners can wind up the boost and fit a fully sik hectic blow off valve and away they go. I can envisage many of the forum tuner sponsers hopping on the band wagon here, and why not.

Engine is from an all new generation of Subaru flat fours. The EJ series of motors is being replaced by these new ones. Also the Toyo version comes with direct injection. HKS have already made a supercharger kit (no doubt cost half what the car sells for, hopefully others get onto it to force reasonable prices) and is being drifted in the 2012 series.
At the Detroit motor show earlier this year Chevrolet displayed the 130R, a small RWD Coupe based on the Alpha platform that was seen as a competitor to the 86. Its going to be an effort to sell that for $30K, Toyota have really shot the lights out on pricing here.

Agree. The car is great for P platers that are not allowed turbo charged engines, however it's only serious aftermarket tuners that will reap the immediate benefit from this car with extensive modification.
Those who just want to mildly modify will likely wait for the engine to come with a standard turbo.
