I would dare say its sprint times will be close to a renault clio sport.
Well a stock s15 runs 14.8 1/4 mile. I highly doubt an sv6 would come close to that considering stock ls1 Monaro's/commodores are reported at approx. the 14.5 mark.

On another note (unrelated to any post), if the brz/86 handles anything like an mx5 (which it supposedly does) - it'll be one fun car to drive/own. There are a lot of haters on here who bag out mx5's, but Im sure that most people on here haven't driven one.

There is no doubt that a v8 is nice to drive (I have one) but I also have an mx5 and as gay as many think they are, they're a lot more fun to fling around the bends.

Having owned 2 MX5s, 2 HSVs 2 HDTs and a variety of V8 Commodores over the years, nothing comes close to an MX5 (at reasonable $$) to a total and pure driving experience.

I am the first to get excited by power and torque, RWKWs and the sound of a V8 engine, but practically speaking, these types of cars offer daily enjoyment without hurting the hip-pocket. I am not bagging out any car type, and I am DEFINITELY NOT anti-Holden, I am just practical

My mum has been waiting about a year for this car and finally purchased a black manual gts today, should be a neat little car and since she loved her celica I would say that this willbe a fun little car for her!

I'd love one of these as an eventual replacement for the Vectra - small, light, cheap, quick-ish and RWD - what's not to like? Would much prefer this than something like the Golf GTI which, while nice, did not make me want to shell out $40k when I test drove it.

I just hope that there's enough room in the front for me to fit, and enough room in the back for the occasional bit of youngster transport. Having said that, in the 18 months since I've had the Vectra the kids have been in the back of it only three times so I'm sure I could work around it.

Funny you say your Mum bought one
A friend of my kid says the family is getting one but his father told him they will be fighting over the keys
The young bloke drops my kid and 3 others home in a 4 door at the moment I told her she won't fit in the Toyota unless there are less passengers and she lives the biggest distance away so is likely to be the one to miss out
It is going to be odd/funny if I buy one and have to pick her up coz he has one and she won't fit
I think there will be a few of the older generation looking at buying one- possibly the people who had MX5's b4

    you may be right,
having only seen photos I guess I will know after I go look tomorrow
At the moment on desktop background it looks o.k.,but in the metal it may be too small for my liking
I was thinking it is a bit Mazda RX8 when I saw the early photos

Mate of mine took his stock SIDI SV6 to Calder and ran a 14.98 on 20" rims. The only mistake in http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthre...0&#post1687370 is that I found out later he had dragged a couple of times before and thinks with 18" rims and more runs he could have got down to mid/high 14s. Car has since been sold so we don't know what it was capable of.

Is there any sense in comparing a Toyota 86 to Commodore SV6?
The only thing they have in common is that neither are fast in a straight line.

That's surprisingly quick for 6. I wonder what an 86 would do down the quarter.

I think he was pointing out an incorrect post on the times for an S15 and how an SV6 would not keep up. I was going to suggest that a JDM S15 is capable of a stock 14.8 1/4mile but I would suspect an Aus delivered version would only pull a low 15 as they are detuned for our "lower octane fuel".

In any case, yes I don't dispute the fact that it will be a fun car to drive but as something thats supposed to be a sports car I was hoping it would have more grunt than it does. People say they would buy this over a hot hatch, I would have to disagree. I would say at best it's going to deliver the same amount of performance in a package that is far less practical in something that looks faster than it really is. Not my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong I had high hopes for this car but I guess I'm not it's target audience.

One thing I will say though to Toyota is FINALLY!!! They have brought back a RWD car! Now please please please bring out a TRD version with a supercharger or turbo.

One car I am looking forward to the release of and yes I realise it will be double the price of the FT86 (according to web sources, I think it may go for more!) is the Alpha Romeo 4C. How does a target weight of 900kg with a 300hp 1.7L turbo engine sound?

I read somewhere they do 14.8.

Ever since I heard about this car coming out I said I'd like to own one, but in reality now I have owned a big 4 door sedan I dont know if I could go back to a small 2 door

Whilst true, I am more focussed on the package rather than one aspect of the car. In my case, my driving is 80% in the peak hour commute so straight line speed is irrelevant. On the weekends a nice country road doesn't need straight line speed, it makes the trees come up a lot faster!!

According to today's paper (car section),
If you miss out on a car from the 1st shipment there is a minimum 6 months wait for the next batch.Toyota is saying they can deliver 250 a month
Also the Subaru BRZ will only have 1 model and price hasn't been set as yet AND there will only be 201 in the 1st six months coming to OZ

Can't remember where I read this but supposedly the brz will be around 5-7k more than the 86 as well.
