Bloody hell...
Below is a copy and paste from 4WD Action on Facebook.
The owner needs a good slap!!
Check this out for a serious lack of maintenance! The boys at Superior Offroad 4WD had this TB45 GU Patrol come in to find out why the oil light was staying on. The last oil change was 12 years ago! Makes you pretty happy you change yours every 5,000km, right?

Bloody hell...
Just wow...
OUCH!!! reminds me of the alloytech posted on here not long ago with the same sorta gunk build up. Owner should be castrated
Surely the owner of the Patrol would have noticed "a lack of power" before it had come to this![]()
No service for 12 years v reco motor, hes probably still in front $$$ wise.
just what i was thinking.
So this is how tarmac is made...
Heard of some pretty long intervals before however that one wins.![]()
I am often at a workshop where cars come in 15 months over due for service or 30,000 kays since last service. I'm talking about newer cars too not old bombs . One car was a tiguarn? with 45000 kays and had not even had first service. Makes you almost cry at the way people treat things. And some poor young girl will buy this second hand one day with a clagged motor.
A mate of mine has his own shop, has been mentioning this trend for a while now ie overdue services. New or old cars, it doesn`t matter, people don`t wont to service cars now days, don`t want to spend money on maintainence or be inconvienenced for a small amount of time, think they will run forever if they just keep putting fuel in them.
He hadn`t seen a local toyota corolla for 2-3yrs but had seen it running around, business was slow so he started ringing up customers etc, this corolla booked in and rocked up, car hadn`t been touched in this time did 45k and had no oil left,no brakes, bald tyres. Totally amazing! Owner was blistfully unaware and had just relied on someone noticing it needed attention (rego checks etc)
Might have something to do with the extended service intervals cars run now days. Non car minded people may just be forgetting the 12mth service interval and keep on driving unaware they missed it.
On the other hand people are trending towards turning cars over every 3-5yrs now so maintainence is not really a concern for these people, they roll the dice hoping the car will make it until trade in time.
Cheers Phill
I've also spoken to a few workshop owners recently - all of whom cite the trend of people stretching services out, well past manufacturer intervals, or attempting them on their own. All I can conclude - in a lot of cases - is that financial pressures / cost of living are hurting people and they are letting one thing go which does not have an immediate negative effect, in order to meet other obligations. If you miss a service, it doesn't mean your car stops / breaks, but if you fail to pay the electricity - you're in the dark.
Our cost of living is sky-rocketing - you only have to see how low the RBA interest rates are to understand the pressures our economy is facing.
There has to be a tipping point that is almost being reached.....

I think its the priorities of these people being different, most would prefer to buy a coffee everyday than spend the cost on servicing their car.
Really, there is no excuse not to regularly service your car, especially with the likes of Midas doing $129 log book services. I service my car myself every 6 months/5,000km and it costs me about $70 using synthetic oil and a genuine filter.
