I think you actually have this completely back to front mate, the M3 is the faster car, when driven flat out.
Every comparison I have ever read says that at 10/10ths the M3 will kill the C63 ... but every journo driving them backs that up with "but I'll take the C63 for the drive home from the track".
The C63 was built for everyday use, not track use ... it's the better "overall package" ... and yes, I've driven both.
Back to the HSV vs FPV bullshit, why does everyone assume that just because one has a better engine, drive train, gearbox, interior, overall package etc. etc. that the other one must be shit. They are both cracking cars, unbeatable value for money, faster than anything you could ever really need, look great, sound great and handle great. Buy the one you prefer, either way you'll be a happy camper.

My understanding is at 10/10ths (i.e. on a track) the M3 is the quicker because of its superior handling and dynamics, while the C63 cleans it up over the ¼ due to its horsepower advantage. I think that’s what I was trying to say.
And of course none of these cars come from the showroom built for the track.
Anyway my comment wasn’t meant to be about which is the better of these cars, the HSV or the FPV or the M3 and C63 for that matter. They are all great cars in their own way and I’d own anyone of them in a flash.
I buy cars admittedly not big budget ones that have more of the things I want than the things I don’t.
I look for affordable performance machines that also suit the needs of my family.
I badly tried to convey in my post that one consumers idea of what is a full package can be very different to the next.
I see an SSV and a XR6T as full packages, the other cars mentioned here have the frilly fancy creamy bits on top.
And for the members that are lucky enough to own the fancy ones, they must taste yum.
Back on track.
The r spec has allegedly done a 0-100 in 4.6 in manual and 4.5 in auto (by the mag journos).
Has reset the bar in Aussie performance sedans for straight line speed.
Will be interesting to see lap times.
I was looking at the cost of these things the other day and by Christ they are one friggen cheap performance machine 65k drive away know one would be complaining now only I'd they brought it out in a senator equivalent not just the GT with friggen ugly rear wing
iPhone in the middle of Farkin no-where
Under a bonnet listening for knock with my earmuffs on
The gt-e is a nice rig drew, seen a few around, would have one over a senator
GM: Has millions of dollars and highly trained engineers.
Guy in his backyard: Has a hole saw.
Are these times achieved by using an "owner pays the bills" method, or the Motor mag style "rev the sh!t out of the thing and dump the clutch coz it's not my car" method? I'm aware of the launch control, but there are usually limits to the amount you want to use this feature if you have to pay for repairs.
Don't get me wrong, I really couldn't care less if FPV consistently beats HSV in straightline testing, but I do feel that magazines often aim for the P plate d!ckbeating crowd that probably drive flogged out EF Falcon's and VS Commodore's, rather than caring about what most potential buyers care about.
I'd happily own either brand at the moment if I was in the market. Both give you a ton of performance and practicality for relatively little money. A golden period that looks to be coming to an end unfortunately...

They would have abused the shit out of them no doubt dave.
The interesting thing is that the mags usually get slower times than manufacturer claims and private owners so it seems like a great result.
Launch control, suspension setup and wider rears are obviously helping highlight the strength of the motor. It really is a ripper.
I agree on the longevity of launch control.
Either way, a brilliant result. 4.5 o-100 is truly super sedan territory. Match it with the 80-120 times (2.5) and trap speed (113-115mph) and it leaves no doubt these things are monstrous in a straight line.
Like I said, let's see how the rspec goes on the track.
Don't think drew, just do it. A demo gte could be had for mid60's.
So now this $70k aussie built FPV is as quick to 100km/h as a 2012 BMW F10 M5, with the the addition of some wider rubber, managed to shave .5 out of it's sprint time.
Sorry but i find that very hard to believe. My guess would be somewhere near the high 4.8-9 seconds, still a very substantial improvement and a bloody quick time.
