    Re: Opel Monza (VB "Monaro")

Seen one before in an old motor mag, pretty sure it was called a HDT Monza. I thought it was a VK though?? Can't remember.
They may have had IRS too?

    Maybe someone else can confirm.

Man - that thing might be rare and/or valuable, but what I know is it is FREAKIN UGLY! It just looks so wrong - sorta like a UC Torana rear welded to a VB front

I bet that injected 202 really delivers "Monaro" performance too......... So Glad that Holden didn't release this car here (I'd mini spew in my mouth every time I saw one).

    Re: Opel Monza (VB "Monaro")

Peter Brock built a HDT Monza featuring Group three running gear, T5G box from memory and Bilstein suspension on a set of Irmcsher wheels. The car featured IRS and a luxo interior. If memory serves me correct the car is now in QLD with a collector.

It could have been something really special back in the day but ADR and price rendered it a piece of aitomotive history. Check out the HDT forum as I think it is still featured there.

The car listed in the op will be a generic private import I imagine. "Pickles" can probaly shed some more light on this rare beast...

    Re: Opel Monza (VB "Monaro")

You are all confused, the car in the Gumtree ad has nothing to do with Holden, it's an Opel Monza, the coupe version of the Opel Rekord/Senator which the Holden Commodore is based on, this car is basically the same as a VB-VL series Commodore. Yes it has IRS, as did the 77 onwards Opel Senator, this IRS is the same as the IRS fitted to the VP-VX1 Commodores. The engine is a 3.0L fuel injected 6, good for 132Kw, which was better than the 125Kw in a VB-VK 5.0L, gave better top speed too.

Peter Brock imported one to Australia and converted the steering to the Holden rack-and-pinion and fitted the 5.0L Group 3 SS engine out of the VH Group 3 SS. This became the HDT Monza.

There are a couple other Opel Monzas in Australia, A green one with a VL Calais front at the Melbourne Motor Show auction and a Maroon one I saw in Box Hill, both in the late 90s.

    Cheers, Matthew

Spot on! Brock would certainly been able to sell a few of them had he had things in place to produce them, but it would have been a logistical nightmare, & by the time the first one was finished, the model was superceded.
Nevertheless, the completed car is a vey nice bit of kit.
    Cheers, Pickles.

They are pretty common in the UK along with the Opel Manta
