Quick questions about Aerforce Interceptor Gauges & Mounting

    Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of buying a pair of Aeroforce gauges for my VY SS. I just have some quick questions....hopefully they're not too dumb:

    1. Do I need to buy the oil pressure sensor kit from Aerforce to monitor oil pressure on my VY SS or is it read from the PCM somehow? link:
    http://aeroforcetech.com/products_sensors_oil.html

    2. If yes, do I need to buy any other fitting or T-piece when installing this oil pressure sensor?

    3. For the $399, is the Y shaped OBD2 cable (to connect both gauges) included in the kit? Or do I have to purchase this separately for $30? link:
    http://aeroforcetech.com/accessories.html

    4. I have just purchased a genuine VY/VZ HSV gauge pod (that is still coming in the mail) and was wondering how these Aeroforce Gauges are mounted into the pod...i.e. are they bolted in, or are they a press fit or do I need double sided tape?

    5. From experience, how reliable are these gauges? Are they built to last or are people replacing them every few years?

    Thanks heaps guys.

Quick questions about Aerforce Interceptor Gauges & Mounting

why don't you just ask aeroforce the same questions?

I'll help to when I had one in my Vx, the oil pressure reads it off the computer you shouldn't need the extra sensor. I believe they come with the Y cable, or splitter just ask them before ordering. the gauges should come with a U shaped bracket which locks the gauge in place easy to work out when you see it.

How does the LS1 PCM read oil pressure? Is it a raw value or calculated from other parameters?

    ok to answer your questions,

    1. No
    2. No
    3. No
    4. they have a u shaped bit of metal that holds the bezel into the mount. I think, and dont quote me, the standard gauge pods need to be opened up a little to fit the aeroforces.
    5. I had mine in the ute for 2 years. Had hot day, cold days and always on when driving. When I sold my ute I gave them to huggies and they have been in vxblk since so add 3yrs onto the 3 I had them for.

The PCM reads oil pressure off the oil pressure switch, its in realtime and is accurate. Also to note you can put alarms on the aeroforces so if pressure drops below a set value they make a noise and flash.

the gauges fit the standard vy pods with no dramas, pretty sure it is the vz twin hump gauge pod which has slightly smaller gauges.

ok most people have answered your questions but just to add.

    same as Zorro.

    No
    No
    No
The guages will fit into the VY pod without modification, how ever I found that the clamp that holds the guages in does cause the guage to rotate a bit in the pod so a bit of macano or other straight bar to keep everything lined up will help.

I found that if you tighten the clamp too much it wants the pop the bezel off the guage, so they are only done up just snug.

I bought my guages as part of the orginal group buy (cant remember how many years now) but both my gauges are buggered - they turn on for a split second then the screen goes blank - the LCD is buggered. I emailed Aeroforce a while ago to ask about it and see If I could buy replacement screens or just buy new ones but never got a response so gave up

pretty sure they dont beep mate

honestly i dont think they work well as a shift light, the leds arent superbright and if you are concentrating on the road you wont see them.
i have a proper led shift light in my vy ss and the led's are superbright especially at night.

Cool, thanks for the reply. Do you have a link to the shift light that you have? And where did you mount it? Any photos?

Re: Quick questions about Aerforce Interceptor Gauges & Mounting

Hey mate, I did the same thing for my VYSS Wagon (LS1 + HTV1900) but also got the boost and AFR options, the gauges are great and without boost and AFR they just plug straight into the OBDII port for all sorts of info.

Getting someone to fit and wire up the boost and AFR options was 'one of those learning experiences' for me though as it cost me an extra $700 to get both these installed, connected and 'setup' by my tuner (yep was totally pissed about it at the time, as was my tuner who spent waaaaaay too long trying to sort them out - it would have cost more due to the labour, but he was a good bloke about it, unfortunately the wife found out and pulled the plug on my CAM upgrade.......... but you get that when you are a big o'l nuff nuff like me ........... hindsight is a wonderful thing ...........).

End of the day though, I do love the look and the amount of info they provide.

Time ticks on though and the wife has all but forgotten about this episode (a new kitchen will do that.....); Now with tax time + e-bay sales means I have some more pennies in the bank and can start looking at drive train, gearbox, motor options.......

Thanks for the reply Frangafry. Damn that extra $700 is a little pricey...but in the end you just need to forget about the wasted $$$ and just enjoy the outcome

What about these for a shiftlight

    http://www.ecliptech.com.au/

you could mount it inside the dash above the LCD screen for that factory look
