Bit of a waste when they're not allowed to enter high speed pursuits anyway.....So whats the point of it? Wank Factor for the police force?
Far cry from revenue raising. I think it's a good idea. Rather than hiding behind a tree or a corner you know they're there.
Was speeding last week (110-115) on the freeway and an undercover car pulled in behind me and flashed his lights. I Pulled into left lane he pulled in beside me took a look and continued at 110. I haven't sped since. Just being aware they're out there and not getting too comfortable is a much better way to slow drivers than a camera that may or may not be reading the correct speed. Maybe they're trying if you can't beat them join them approach.
Btw I recon the 400kw is just to get all that tech up and about. Like to see it handle.
It is purely a publicity and marketing exercise to raise awareness and it is doing a brilliant job as it is being talked about thoughout the car enthusiast community.
1) Get the quickest production car ever built in Australia.
2) Modify it to be even quicker and badge it up accordingly in to send a "I you run you will just die tired" style of message.
3) Make press releases to all the media and just wait for the hysteria from the wowsers and idiots to fuel various beatups.
It cost $150k.
A month or two of state wide "hoon law" advertising costs $150k and is usually ignored by most people especially car enthusiasts.
This one car, which will never ever be used for anything except publicity, has already down what would have cost millions in advertising and will continue to draw attention for a long time to come.
I personally think it is and absoultely brilliant strategy and should be replicated by other states.
One interesting point is what will they do if/when there is a quicker cars released.
Up until the GT R-Spec was released the W427 held the crown for quickest production car in Australia.
I am sure HSV and for that matter FPV have plans for the future so maybe the "NSW Interceptor" will need to be freshened and the incumbent put out to pasture.
I believe it will end up in a museum rather than being sold as it would be rather bad publicity for the "ex NSW Interceptor" to be involved in an incedent.
Australia, the safest road laws money can buy.
Good to see them using their powers to make a judgement call .
If the police put a police car with the blue and reds flashing , in a high vis area , on an overpass or rise in the road ,
they'd slow down more people then speed cameras and if you saw this and continued to speed then you deserved it .
