any chance front bar had been repainted before??
ive replaced my fair share of vy ss bumpers and am near 100% sure the black under the number plate is a textured finish
Hi All,
I own 04 vy ss s2 - someone recently hit my from the front i required a new bumper, its been replaced - the bottom spoiler (under the number plate) has a different finish to the rest of the bumper (if that makes sense?) i took it back and the bloke is adament its a genuine 2 bumper and the finish is supposed to be different. the finish has a ripple effect. whereas before the accident it was smooth like the rest of the car.
can anyone help me with this? just need someone to confirm if im right or wrong?
thanks
rob.

There's certainly a difference between VY S1 and S2 SS bars though can't remember exactly what except it is in the bottom middle area. Given the guy insists your new one is definitely S2 it's quite likely it had previously been damaged and replaced incorrectly with S1.
The only difference between series 1 and 2 is the part that is painted. Series 1 has the centre fin in the lower part of the bar painted and the very bottom bit left raw. Series 2 has the bottom section smoothed and painted and the centre 'fin' left raw. This makes the bar look lower on a series 2 and makes the 'intake' look larger.
The texture should be filled and painted on lowest section if that makes sense. I will try and find a pic to demonstrate.
Both parts on my VY2 were raw black from factory. Looks better IMO.
Couldn't tell you on my old Vy2 as it was black on black!
I know but they are the same bars, ss has foggies that's the difference.
I know the difference because I have had a VY ss (series 2) front bar replaced twice and gone through the whole thing with my panelbeater... If you don't believe me maybe speak to Holden and get their opinion.
And yes he is talking about the texture but it gets filled then painted.
This has also been covered in the forum before, a quickfound this in the archives: http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/archive/...p/t-78064.html
There are also other car forums that came up with the answer to your question on.
Short answer, filled/smoothed and then painted buddy.
@ the end of the day it just goes to show how much knowledge the guys in the repair industry actually have! Not all just some, maybe they don't give a shit?
