buy the VX SS i have for sale in the classified section
With the price of early VX and VT going under the 10k mark easy now, brings me to the though of building a bit of a street/strip weapon.
Found a VT going for 6k, probably get it for a bit less. What mods should i do to it ?
Cam and heads is an old fav, build the box, big stall and 4.11's, all depending on how healthy the old LS1 is.
Any other thoughts ? LS3/L98 crate ?
Dan
PS yes i did just sell a VT lol

Oh dear Dan! My vote goes to trying to find a VX SS with as many bolt-on's already done as possible for as close to 10k as you can go. Then using the classifieds find a cam/stall/diff and freshen the LS1, some bigger brakes and job done. No idea how close to 20k that can be done though.
This one going to be for the street too? Didn't take long for the itch to come back.![]()

Id buy some sort of Forumla Vee open wheeler, a trailer and a bunch of spares. Should have enough cash left over to go to a bunch of race meetings at various race tracks...
Trust me when i say that commodores are just too damn big and heavy to make go fast without spending a small fortune. You'll have 10x more fun in an open wheeler (as well as learning a whole bunch more) plus an open wheeler is easy to sell down the track. You'll never get your money back on a commodore... (Im talking from experience here)
I completely get where you are coming from, only a couple of things stopping me.
My new job isn't very flexable with time off to go racing, hence why i sold my VT being unregistered, and only for limited use.
I still love drags, and my closest circuit is around a hour away, Motorplex is much closer
I would like something i can drive on the street again.

S15 or R32 with an LS3 conversion
If you're looking at running serious times with decent streetability I would go the LS3 conversion straight off the bat. No point pussy footing around, will run very low 11's to a high 10 and be a lot more pleasant to drive compared to the 5.7L equivalent. If you just want to be consistent/competitive then put whatever combo you want in there and just get as many passes in as you can.
20K? Get a '99/00 wrx for 9K. Spend 10 on it and you have a rocket capable of taking on most things on the street and at the track. Would eat EVERY V8 you'd build! Won't win me any brownie points on here, that's for sure, but people are suggesting Open Vees, R32s, etc, so why not that. Smoke and a great sound counts for zip unless that's the real reason you want a V8?
180SX, S13 or S14 with an LS1 conversion. I've wanted to do this for ages.
Volvo 240.
Agree re the 180, wrx etc etc, but if drags are your thing, then I'm throwing in the humble MkIV Supra and bang on the biggest single turbo you can afford - you won't need an ecu as a mat eof mine is running 430kwatw with the factory ecu with upgraded ignition (unopened engine), from memory he's running GT3540.
