Air bag light on VY SS

    Hi Guys,

How do you get the air bag light to turn off?
My car has just had an audio system installed & now the air bag light stays on. The reason for this is that the front seats were removed to install the amps and the VY SS II has air bags in the seat.

Where is the airbag info stored?in the PCM?My installer doesnt want to give the car back until the light can be turned off. He wants to take it to Holden, but I'm hoping that the air bag reset is not stored in the PCM...since my PCM is locked (cammed etc). I also don't want Holden to wipe the tune.

Holden will not wipe the tune using Tech2 to switch off the SRS warning light.
It is just a simple "Reset" option on the menu.
The installer should know that if he turns the power on or accessories on with the seats removed
it will set off the SRS warning and there is no way I would be paying for his fark up.

Thanks heaps for the reply. So even though my PCM is locked, Holden will still be able to reset the SRS airbag light using Tech 2? And don't worry I'm definitely not going to pay for the installers fark up

Yeah, they won't even try and look at the tune. It is a very simple reset.
Any proper installer should know about setting off the SRS warning light, there is no excuse in my books for that.

Even if a Holden mechanic looked at the tune I am betting they would not even know it was modified. Or really care for that matter. They will just reset the light and maybe crank the stereo to see how it goes.

The airbag DTC is stored is stored in the SDM (Sensing and Diagnostics Module aka Airbag Module) NOT the PCM. It's under your console. Quick fix with Tech2 or a GOOD scan tool

No. Cheap scan tools won't do it. It's ALDL UART not J1850PWM (VT-VZ LS1) and on a different OBDII pin. You could use an old ALDL cable if you knew the commands but its beyond the scope of this thread
