Re: VF Commodore revealed - Official details and pics - Part 4

Through my lease provider i can get the SSV for about 41k , and the redline for about 46k (both in manual trans)... Great value, although i wish holden would make the auto a no cost option. I'm considering either one of those on a 12 month lease to give me some time in the VF and then figure out if i want the new GT or GTS... My other option is a used GT 335 or newish GS... I really want the power of the S/C motor, but i also want the tech and looks of the VF. Thankfully i have time, as the lease isn't up until March next year.

Nah, not gonna happen! Wife already hates how much i spend on cars and modifications... By the time i spent coin on supercharging the redline, i'd be near the cost of a new GT (62k through my provider)... Granted, i think the GT is a little bland inside the car... I'm keen to see what Ford do with the GT/GS in 2014 (if anything at all). From there i will decide on a GT or GTS. The SSV or redline will basically be my 'gap' car. I can live with that!

Interesting that they've gone back to door knobs. I like the look without them.

I’ll start outside – it looks far better in the metal than it does in the pictures, although the styling changes have had the unfortunate effect of making it look bigger – both from the side, and at the front end especially where it’s taller, wider and generally bulkier. People who are put off by Commodores being too big are not going to be won over. But the styling works. The integration of the new front and rear with the old sides works much better in the metal; even the mess around the base of the A pillar is not as prevalent in that you don’t tend to focus on it as much. I think the SS has lost some of the ‘toughness’ it had in the VE but it still looks pretty good front and rear. I think that I’d be ordering the rear wing though, it does look a little too Calais without it. One interesting point is that where the VE had lots of openings and corners for air to get lost in at the front end, the VF front end is very smoothed out and clearly designed with the focus on aerodynamics as much as anything else.

Inside – yes, it is a big improvement on the VE. The VE interior looked fine to me in SV6/SS trim as they weren’t trying to be luxury models; they did a good job of being functional if a bit austere, without unnecessary bling and trinkets. But the VE interior failed in Calais form where it just looked like a base model with leather. The VF SSV interior felt like it would make a great Calais with lots of silver trim and suede and generally nicer materials all round. Where the VE interior was particularly bad, which was around the centre console and lower half of the dash, the VF is much better. The upper part of the dash and door trims are probably on a par, but the suede trim across the dash does look quite good in the SSV. The interior does feel a bit bigger, even though it’s not; I put that down to the change to a light coloured headlining as opposed to VE black, and the dash design drawing your eyes horizontally rather than vertically as in the VE. The new seats are a bit softer than the VE SS seats and have bigger side bolsters on the base, and I suspected that my old 120kg self might have had some issues (even if they were quite soft and probably had plenty of give); needless to say, current 100kg me thought they were fine. If anything, maybe the SSV interior could stand to be a little less Calais and a little more SS but buyers should be very happy with it.

Would I buy one? Yeah. Will I trade my VE SS in for one? No; but that’s only because I didn’t see enough to make me want to fork out for a $30k changeover. Let me put it this way: if I was buying today, and I had a choice between a new VF and a runout VE I’d take the VF, unless the VE turned out to be more than $5k or so cheaper to drive away today.

It should do well; people will have to think of new excuses not to look at one and I think the only one that really carries any weight now is that the Commodore might be too big for their needs.

Marco the SSV you looked at did it have the beige stripe going on the seats & beige suede on the dash? Cos all the Holden pictures show the beige highlights only on SSV Redline, the only one I have seen in beige is in the post at the top & in a Calais. Doesn't mention anything on the Holden website about having a interior option on the SSV.

On another note has anyone tried the remote start on automatic models?

Southgate Holden at Reynella has both an SSV wagon and sedan. Both are autos. Test drove the wagon today as looking to lease one through work, but still recovering from what I was offered as a trade in on a Terry turbo ghia! Now theres a car that's value has fallen (glad I at least didn't buy it new)...

You can see the interior of My SS V in the Who has purchased a VF thread. I have the beige/white stripe on the seats and beige dash and door highlights. Far too much black without it imo.

I think it did but I can't quite recall now. Exterior colour was white so maybe it's colour dependent?
    2007 VE SS M6 - Ignition
    2013 JH Cruze SRi M6 - Redhot

Re: VF Commodore revealed - Official details and pics - Part 4

thanks Aus8 at least I know you can get the beige colour on the SSV but like marco said wonder if it is colour dependent.

Its funny as our car is exactly the combo I was thinking of except have the black outs for the front and side grille and also having the black lip spoiler, although I would go the manual so I can use the remote start.

Does anyone else think that some of the alloys look funny on the VF like they aint big enough? not sure if those rims on the SSV look as good in the real life as they do on the Holden website. Maybe need to option the SSV with HF 20 rims

Was this a redline because the Holden website shows two things -

    1. SSV wagon comes with jet black leather and no red stitching
    2. Redline wagon comes with cream stripe in the seats and red stitching....

Pity it doesn't show the interior when you do the price and build..

Confirms that the VF seems to look best in Calais form.
