It's been good.
Hi folks, got me a need to get a new battery as mine is on it's way out and I don't want to get stranded.
Whats the best battery for an LS1 (550 and up) and who has them at a decent price at the moment?
Cheers,

I have probably been extremely lucky or whatever, but the battery in my VX SS is a plain old 460cca Exide that was fitted on the 8/06/06, so just over 7 years old and still going strong, just came back from a 5 week overseas holiday and it started as if I had driven it yesterday. It is the old style lead acid battery with the filler caps so you can top it up, a lot of the newer batteries are now sealed and are a Calcium battery or part Calcium. Now I have said this I have probably jinxed myself. I will probably just go another Exide or a Century. I have bought most of my batteries from East Coast Spares in Ringwood, they are pretty good price wise.

go straight for an optima.
Im with Drewie. Exide or century last ages. I have a century going on 4 years. No issues what so ever.
If you cant afford or arent running crazy stereo installs or doing track days you wont need an optima. If you can afford it, they are a good option.
I just bought one of these, but xuv's option looks pretty damn good at that price.

I like the Century batteries. The normal on is the 58, but if you get a 68 you get a 3 year warranty for domestic use. A lot cheaper than Optima etc.
http://www.centurybatteries.com.au/s...atteries/ID-19 620cca / 120 rc. Both better numbers than the Optima and unless you are driving you car up side down just as good

optimas arent that expensive if you know where to find them.... i got my yellow top off eBay for $200 and ive killed it half a dozen times and it keeps on keeping on... just re-charge it and away you go,.....
another one for reference these i've had no issues with from memory was $130 last time i got one http://www.supercharge.com.au/products_auto_gold.php
Ve recommended one http://www.supercharge.com.au/produc...ery_search.php
When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
I think the Century batteries are fine so long as you don't put them through any unusual conditions ie letting them go flat etc. I had the 68 in my hardly ever driven SS sitting in the shed on a CTEK charger, it lasted just over 12 months under those conditions. I am hoping for better life out of the Yellow Top, but I guess time will tell.
I used supercharge gold MF53 in my VT (one lasted 6 years, the other was still perfect after 2 years), was 600CCA from memory and maintenance free.
