I think everyone is being extremely critical when it come to the fitment and panel gaps, go have a look at one in person and there pretty damn impressive! I know this as i build malibu boats interiors 5 days a week and we have an extremely stringent quality we have to follow! Holden are doing a great job and i think people should cut them some slack and stop being a big bunch of F@#%ing wingeing critics and support our great company and be proud of what we can produce! If u can do better than what holden/hsv are prove it!

Valid points Macca but Malibu charge a premium because they make premium products. If HSV are happy for their cars to leave the factory with gaps and some of the other issues we've seen then they shouldn't be charging the prices they do.

Quite disappointed with the approach of sales staff at the moment. They are not willing to discount bugger all, i realise that they are on a sales high for the new model but it's inevitable that in 6-12 months the sales will well and truly plateau and they will be sitting on the arses again.

In my opinion if you can sell a car with only a small profit you bloody well sell it, the next and/or the previous people have already paid retail for theirs. Very frustrating dealing with HSV today. Like i said they are on a big high at the moment with cars selling before they hit the lot but that'll soon stop and they're to bloody ignorant to realise!

Other than that every time i spend time in one of the variants i'm even more impressed. Not a fan of the cream highlights in the Redline/Calais interior but other than that it's very good. I paid particular attention to fit and finish today and must say out of the 10 or so variants i looked at i only found one minor thing, the headlight on one was slightly off and as someone mentioned elsewhere you could see into the engine bay.

But why would they waste their time haggling with you when the next guy in the door will happily pay sticker price?

That's a fair point the first thing I did was call a mate who is a gm at a fleet company, he gave me the margin they are working with and that's what I worked on, 10 minutes of haggling and it was deal done. They made a few hundred and the point I made was the guy behind me may buy it at retail, but if I walk out now you don't make money off me at all. Given that I had been dealing with three dealers I was prepared to walk.

You're got the margin on their rrp plus the dealer delivery cost which is was quite quick to cut in half when I asked for a better deal.

Just to give people an idea the margin on a ssv auto was $35**, Calais V was 4100.

That was the point mate, they are just living on a high at the moment, soon the easy sales will dry up. I would sell 10 cars at retail and let one go cheap, rather then sell 10 and let that 1 sale go. At the end of the day it's a numbers game and the higher the number the better. I also understand that they need to make a commission and a profit i'm not arguing that but they have already made that on the other 10 (which is just a number for arguments sake).

On a positive they are selling bloody well and like i said often before they hit the deck.

Yep, i reckon alot more willingness to play from the Holden variants rather than the HSV, which i was more referring to.

also gotta remember that HSV are a niche manufacturer, and I daresay the pricing is a lot more competitive now as with the Holdens.

Another thing i had to laugh about today on an Clubsport R8 SV..... Not so long ago you had to get a premium model to get side mirrors in the same colour as the car instead of black, now you gotta pay extra to get black ones!?!? Go figure huh.....

I'm in a small town with one dealer so can't play ball with them. Had a prelim discussion the other day got the margins for the Calais and SV6. Made it seem he wasn't really willing to go lower then RRP, was hesitant to even throw in extras... This will be fun

Deco when I was in CQ I had the same issue. On one occasion I bought the car from Brisbane and arranged to meet halfway as part of the deal, another time used those prices to bring some sense to the local dealer. Work out what it would cost for a flight to Brisbane and a running in trip home. Sometimes it works out well.

    Deco,

I live in a large rural town but again only one dealer. I shopped around last time, and found FAR better deals out there.

Dealer 100km up the road was $11k cheaper but couldn't throw on extras. Rang a dealer in Adelaide, one phone call was all it took and I was a total of $14k better off.

Ring around and get prices. If local dealer doesn't play ball, buy elsewhere. Happy hunting.

Some dealers really won't budge. I've called 6 places in Melbourne looking for a Calais v v8, 4 dealers said that they wouldn't budge from the 57k mark. The cheapest I was quoted was $53,485 for a black on black one.
