Yes, agreed, but I'm going for the Black again after the Finance Committee poo-poo'd the Prussian Steel as too green.
I like the colour of the HSV satin silver.

One thing of interest was the spare wheel situation. Of the 2x SS and 1x SSV that we checked, all were fitted with the steel space saver wheel. The brochure says that the can of goo is std and space savers and alloy spares are optional but the dealer was adamant that the space saver was standard.

Can anyone confirm what is standard fitment for the spare wheel?
Dealer told me that all the dealers have agreed to put in a steel spare and you don't get compressor even though its in the brochure. We were talking about a Calais V

Interesting info there vfblack. My dealer actually confirmed this morning that they have been optioning these up in the cars instead of the goo/air comp. I have asked if there is an extra cost for this but no reply as yet. Definitely a smart move if that is what all dealers are doing. Too inconvenient if you have to be without your car while a tyre is fixed instead of just dropping off tyre for repair and collecting later on.

    Something in the news...

W310 Commodore SS goes on sale, boosting output to 310kW and 580Nm for just $6495

Australian performance outfit Walkinshaw Performance has today announced its first ‘W Series’ model. The high-output W310 Commodore SS boosts the performance of its derivative VF model, the modified model now developing 310kW and 580Nm.

Considering the donor model offers an output figure of 260kW and 517Nm, the increase is significant -- taking the W310’s output to a figure approximating its more expensive brethren at Holden Special Vehicles.

Walkinshaw Performance general manager, Tony Harris, says that the W310 not only ups the performance of the Commodore SS but also improves driveability, without compromising Holden’s three-year factory warranty.

“We think this is the best performance package we have ever produced,” said Harris. “The final figures are impressive as our previous power pack saw gains of up to 10 per cent. With the W310 package it’s more like 20 per cent, and we did this without compromising the drivability of the vehicle.”

Harris said that the added performance of the new W310 is topped only by a customised exhaust system. The twin system features high-flow catalytic converters and a stainless steel cat-back system aimed at adding ‘extra growl’.

“One of the highlights of this package is the all new exhaust system that brings back the growl V8 owners love so much,” Harris added.

A cold-air intake, custom-calibrated ECU and ceramic coated headers add to the W310’s performance credentials. The model is distinguished by a build plate and rear deck badging.

The Walkinshaw Performance W310 package adds $6495 to the price of the Holden Commodore SS on which it is based, and is available now.

Visit motoring.com.au again soon for our full review on the new W310 Commdore SS.

I guess the really interesting bit will be if someone needs to test the "...without compromising Holden’s three-year factory warranty." part

That's what I was thinking too? Surely there would have to be more than an exhaust, intake, tune and a rear badge for that sort of $$.

This is Walkinshaw you're talking about, they aren't exactly known for providing value for money

The badge is made of unobtainium. Saves 0.3 grams on equivalent materials while only costing 19 times more. Is there some form of growth on the bonnet or is it just painted / wrapped?

Don't forget the wrapped (or whatever they have done) bonnet. Maybe done to aid aero dynamics?

Weight reduction by Stealth? Quote the weight of the car without a spare wheel, then chuck it in later. I believe fuel consumption tests are done on a roller not on the road or track (to remove variables), the weight of the car is then factored in to test results or the roller weighting during testing. So if you can quote a lower weight you get better fuel consumption figure. Not sure when the no spare wheel started with Commodore - VE II maybe? May be I'm just cynical.
