A trap for young players ;/

So i went to the car wash yesterday .... and left the keys in the car as i suspect most of us would.

And the car locked itself with the remote/keys still inside.

I did chirp a warning that the doors were shut with the keys were inside BUT isnt this supposed to be smart enough not to lock itself in that situation ??

RACV had to wire its way in for me

Just a heads up folks !

    Steve

If I'm the only one in my car and I must step out of my car, my keys come with me. No exceptions. Mainly due to being stupid and locking keys in, but the other worrying aspect is carjacking. While not common, it's a crime of opportunity where people leave their keys in the ignition while washing the car, filling up on petrol, putting groceries in the boot etc. Somebody sees the keys in while you're distracted and off they go. While this hasn't happened to me, apparently it's becoming more prevalent as car security has reached a point where stealing without the keys is more difficult.

Only took one incident of locking keys in the car for me to learn my lesson btw:P

I never ever leave the keys in the car. Even in my own garage with the bonnet up, everytime I turn it off, keys come out and in to my pocket. They're also never 'on show' in my house.

    New VF SSV ...

and if i keep my keys how does the car get moved in a car wash ?? ... and this was inside a building not exposed on the street

anyway i dont think the car should self lock with the remote inside ... maybe a signal glitch but there you go ... a PITA

I agree with you mate. It shouldn't lock if the keys are in the car. What a pain in the ass that will be. Im used to this feature on my nissan

Probably a run on from the US models that lock when moving off. It's a carjacking thing

Had this happen to me in an R33 Skyline with a Fusion alarm. Pretty sure the car was still running too.
Luckily I was 2mins from home and had a spare set of keys with remote at home.

usually only happens if you open the car with remote but then do not put key in ignition... then self lock, lost of cars do this

Forgive my ignorance but with proximity key in the car and being the car wasn't running. Wouldn't you just be able to touch the door handle sensor to unlock it?
