Yes, Power = Torque x Revs. Race engines tend to have their torque peak at much higher revs, hence the high power.

    Power (hp) = torque (lbf) x revs / 5250

LSA puts out 430Kw (580hp) at 6150 rpm, which means at 6150 rpm it is producing 580 x 5250 / 6150 = 495lbft = 670Nm, so the torque curve is falling away a little bit past peak torque at 3850 rpm torque peak of 740Nm.

V8 supercar, redline 7500 rpm and max power (assumed) 650hp,
if max power occurs at say 7000 rpm, then torque at 7,000 rpm is 487.5Lbft = 660Nm
if max power occurs at say 7500 rpm, then torque at 7,500 rpm is 455.0lbft = 616Nm

I'd love to see official figures but I can't see how an atmo 10.1 comp ratio race engine would not have peak power very close to the redline and the nature of an engine that would produce peak power at such revs, I can't imagine it having much more torque anywhere else in the rev range. hence my guess is that if a V8 Supercar engine is pushing out 650hp then peak torque is somewhere around 650Nm +/- a bit.

Sorry Macca, I'm not having a go at you or your knowledge about engine building but I struggle to think that an atmo 5.0L even in race tune could produce 740Nm.

    Cheers, Matthew

    Re: Supercharged HSV?

An LSA would put of considerable more torque if it wasn't strangled by a factory tune. You can get 650+ out of an ls1 N/A with well under 300rwkw

with a supercharger bolted on, they should compare the VX GTS with either the VE GTS or a VF Clubsport,

then power to weight ratio would be closer.or strap on a blower to the VX GTS

thou I must sat the VF GTS sat well on the track.

Not sure I understand your reasoning. Why would they compare the old GTS with a new Clubsport? They are comparing the top cars from HSV from both eras.

    Because it's not supercharged,

and if it was an era thing then they should have thrown in the NA VE GTS for a comparison, but that would have shown the VE GTS shortcomings .

They picked the VX because it was a nice gap of 10 years AND it was the most powerful locally built car at the time. Nice comparison.

i would think the VX GTS would have similar performance on track as a VE GTS, so that is definetely a big big step up in performance. ie/ the 1/4 times only tell half the story.

well done hsv. i want one lol..

Tune, pacies and pulley, what would the total cost of that be?

    Pretty impressive time.

Wouldn't think it would be a huge outlay for that sort of performance

Any idea when this happened as i spoke to eddie late friday arvo and he said that it made 570rwhp but had not been to the track yet.

Wow, about 425rwkw? That's amazing with simple bolt-ons.
