    Di Filippo cats issue

Can anyone shed some light on this, it has me baffled..

brand new Di Filippo 3" cats, ever since putting them on and starting car the passenger one gets so hot that it glows red roar (drivers one is fine) not blocked as still plenty of pressure coming out that side of exhaust.
Is getting that hot its melted the heat shield underneath the car floor pan.
can see tiny metal shards in the back side of the cat (exhaust side) thinking its buggered?

new engine btw.. have pulled exhaust off and mufflers are not blocked, plugs are getting fuel so dosnt seem to be a fuel issue

car dynoed a couple days ago, ran fine on dyno made good power and torque.. just so confused on this cat .. is it a cat problem?

Can you see a light through it?

Have you rang Darren or Wayne and told them about this?

    Re: Di Filippo cats issue

if i put a torche in the back of the cat i can see through, so not blocked.

rung them yesterday said i would get the cat out today and ring them but they are not open today, they were very good and said if its the cat they would replace it, but im just unsure whether this is a cat issue or something else

Yep Darren is great to deal with, have you tried banging the muffler on that side to see if it rattles?
(really looks like a blocked Cat though)

I run the same Cats, mine don't get hot enough to burn off normal engine paint.

Sure the engine isnt running lean on the left bank? Does the rest of the piping on that side get hotter than the other? Looks like you've had some serious work done, just a thought.

1st, love a tunnel ram, very tuff looking.

2nd, does the exhaust bend sharply after the cat on that side? hotdog or muffler blocked on that side ? are the cats the same specs?

    Re: Di Filippo cats issue

if your certain the cats not blocking up my guess would be overfueling on that bank...

can you swap the cats around and see if it heats the same side or not?

Probably obvious but pull the spark plugs out and check them see if it is running rich, Might have a dodgy O2 sensor if the tune looks ok

I know you said it isn't leaning out, but have you checked ARFs on BOTH banks upstream of the cats (specifically on the problematic side)?

    Re: Di Filippo cats issue

plugs look the same on both banks. brand new injectors. car pulled 330+rwkw on a mainline. exhaust is only one muffler each side after the kiss pipe.
car is a fraction rattly if you tap it (hence why i think the core is a dud)

    Re: Di Filippo cats issue

if it's ratterly the core mite be turning, enough to hamper flow, under exhaust pressure.

How'd you pick up that it was getting so hot ?
