    Removing Door Trims

    Good morning fellas.
I've got some door handle mechanism problems in my VX rear doors and today I'm going to pull the trim off and have a geez to see if I can fix them myself.

Are the rear trims easy to get off? Any tricks to removing them?

    Re: Removing Door Trims

One thing that caught me out first time is there is a screw which holds the inner door release bezel into the door trim
on the front doors and I am pretty sure the rears are the same.

Once I removed that I did not know there is another screw in behind there that screws a bracket holding the door trim to the door.

(I knew I had taken the screw out of the handle/bezel thing and thought that was all and had to work out why the door trim would not come away from the door.)

The rest of the screws and clips are pretty easy to see.

Another thing is you take the door lock button off the inside of the door trim by flipping that red marker thing out,
it is actually a clip that holds the button in place on to the lock rod, there is another little screw that has to come off behind the
door lock button which you will see when you remove it.

    Re: Removing Door Trims

Ok. Fixed the right rear where the button wouldn't pop up when unlocking it.

Now.. the left rear has a different problem. The door won't open using the handles. Inside and out.. The outside handle feels loose like it's not connected to anything.
If I could open this door I could have a geez and see whats up.. Therein lies my problem.. opening the door to get the trim off.

Is there anyway to open the door to get to the trim??

Have you tried taking off the inner handle and pulling the metal rod that is usually connected to it? If this won't open it, maybe it is still locked? If so, remove the locking button and use a pair of needle nose pliers to gently pull the locking mechanism up.

Yeah I tried that and the handle is connected to the rod. The button pops up by remote too.
I'm thinking the outside handle shit itself and the child lock is on

Take your car to Chaddy tonight and leave it in the car park while you watch a movie. Some one will open the door for you while you wait...

Just because the button pops up does not necessarily mean it has come up far enough to unlock. I had a few instances on my old VT2 SS where the button would appear to come up but not far enough to unlock. This usually occurred after heavy rain. That is why I mentioned giving the metal rod that the lock button attaches to a little tug and see if it will come up further? Worth a try, just don't try and rip it completely out of the door

It's the outside handle that's broken (slipped of the rod maybe)
The inside handle is fine.. but the child lock is on.
Time to rip the trim off, fix it and get a new trim.. That's the only option I can see

You can get in with a flat blade or similar to release child lock with the door closed , done it a few times , may be easier to remove the base and that side of the back seat though.
