As far as I know W8 does not play with pop3 email, W8=S*^T
Hi Everyone,
Just got a new PC (HP Envy Phoenix, i7 3.4 Quad core, 16 GB ram, Quick, Impressive machine, but that's another story) Anyway Im still getting my head around windows 8 after coming from Windows XP. How do I set up my Telstra bigpond email to work with the windows 8 mail system? Its vastly different to the outlook express on Windows XP

I thought the inherrent mail account were dumped in W7!
I know you can use outlook in windows office but not set up in the OS.
I believe that Windows Mail (POP) can be set up on Win8 ... you install it from the Windows Essential collection.

^ oops ... not quite.
If you have a POP mail account --- contact your email provider and ask if they can change your account to use IMAP , then use the mail client.

All pretty simple if you follow the steps![]()
“Humanitarianism is the expression of stupidity and cowardice.”
I paid for windows 8 last year after a hard drive crashed.
After 4 hours with windows 8, I formatted the drive and drive to a friends house to get a windows 7 CD because try as I might, I could not download it from the Microsoft site.
Very happy on 7.
8 could not do I wanted to do with my business email accounts so it had to go. I would have thought that they had fixed it by now.

You could just install Mozilla Thunderbird which will connect to any pop/imap email account.
While I hate what Win8 has become, it works for me as the back-end changes are good. Just install Classic Start (boot straight to desktop mode, start button, no more "hot corners") and the rest is the same.
I have been playing with W8 since it's inception & with a few reg tweaks you can overcome any probs! Some people can't handle change
I always mess with new OS in a VM till I'm happy to install them on a live PC.
Installed Thunderbird and it works a treat.![]()
Do the Windows 8.1 U/Grade and you get the Start Button back... Many people were unhappy it lost this feature.
I use it daily and have not found it tooo challenging. Like anything, at some point evolution is going to happen. I prefer to take control of it and not "float around the edges".
Cheers,
James
Can say I've missed the start button at all. Launch Pad shits all over it haha
Just upgraded from 8 to 8.1. The start button returns, but click it and it just takes you back to the tile screen anyway. Im starting to get used to win 8, but its not as user friendly as XP, etc. Still having trouble finding certain things.

Yes 8.1 is much better than 8. I'm running a test mule UA install of 8.1 64 bit on my Wife's laptop atm. When I know I have all the bugs ironed out will be changing over to 8.1 too!
