It was absolutely awesome. I went practice days tues wed, then tournament Thur Fri Sat Sun. I saw the first group every day and watched the last group finish so I spent about 10 hours on the course each day. I took over 1200 photos during the two practice days. They have a tradition where you buy a green camping type chair and you position the chair anywhere you want on the course and leave it with your name on the back or a business card in it. Anyone can sit in anyones chair, but when the owner returns, they politely say 'sorry sir that's my chair' and you have to move. We chair hopped all day and basically were front row watching Bubba, Rory, Adam Scott etc etc all day sitting in other peoples chairs. We positioned our chair on the ropes at 18 for the last three rounds and around 15, 16 the early rounds. I was about 20ft away from Bubba when he putted out on the last. Incredible how close you can get to the players. Even before the tournament I had a hour chat and beer with Doug Sanders who is famous for missing a tiny putt on 18 in the british open and Nicklaus beat him in a playoff the next day..(you tube Doug Sanders) Next minute Tony Jacklin (British Open winner) walks in and I had a decent chat with him.
Incredible experience. Im not sure what tee Bubba and Speith hit off on 4, where they birdied, but it plays 240 yards off the back and there is only a very small landing area on the green. We sat in the stands there round two for about an hour and saw one from sixteen players hit the green. Its the hardest hole on the course by far. I was on 15 when Bubba hit the shot around the trees when we thought he would chip out. Par three tournament Nicklaus, PLayer and Palmer walked right past me only centimetres away. I got some brilliant photos of that moment. I will post up some pics when I get a chance.
