VF Commodore/HSV Owner's Problems & Complaints

As CLUBRED intimated, it depends on driving conditions. From watching how the low fuel warning in my VE SSV operates I strongly suspect it goes off when the tank reaches a certain level. Distance remaining is extremely dependent on your current driving. For example, Wednesday night I drove to and back home again from Pt Cook, a round trip of approx 185km. When I left home my distance remaining said 310km. When I got home 185km later distance remaining was 380km!!

How? Simple! The driving I'd done before leaving home involved slow traffic, traffic lights etc so the distance remaining was calculated on that type of driving. The trip to Pt Cook was 98% 2 lane highway/4 lane freeway at 7.30pm going and midnight coming home so I could sit on the speed limit all the way, not one traffic light etc so the distance remaining was calculated using almost optimum driving.

Bottom line: if you're cruising along the freeway then your distance remaining will reflect that and be quite high (relatively) when the level in the tank reaches that point. If you're in heavy traffic or giving it a caning then your distance remaining will correspondingly be quite low when the level in the tank reaches the predetermined point.

Just some additional information for people having some issues with device "connectivity" in VF with MyLink.
I know it's a bit of a foreign concept, but as the old saying goes- if all else fails, read the manual...

I have the same issue with mine. My dealer can't seem to fix it with software patches do they are now seeking approval from Holden to replace the whole MyLink system.

I have a July 13 SV6 I had the same problem. It took 8 Months but they finally replaced the MyLink Unit and my problem disappeared. They had me deleting songs reinstalling software for Months. I cracked the Sh..ts with the Dealer and all of a sudden they did what I asked Months ago. Ive since heard that there are quite a few early Models with this same problem so I suggest you tell them to look into replacing the Unit. It now works perfectly with my iPhone, kids iPods

Well my mirror dipping issue has returned. After I pressure wash my car at the car wash, the mirrors seem to chuck a spaz. The only way I can fix it is turn off the reverse dipping passenger mirror and reset all of my seat memory positions.
Does anyone have any idea how the water can be affecting the electronics?

I'm well aware of all that, but it doesn't really explain why the final warning (the one you can't clear) ALWAYS happens with 20km remaining. And it was originally beginning to warn of low fuel when there was 50km remaining, regardless of the type of driving I was doing. The only difference the type of driving made was just how quickly it got to those low fuel warnings.

In the end, it's not a huge deal. I just find it a little odd.

after having my VF for seven months, I have found how to activate service mode. by putting my car into this mode, it means that my music stays on as long as it takes to wash my car.

to enable the service mode, just push the stop/start button for five seconds.

They advertise that the car is compatible with some iPods. Have you tried the obvious stuff, ie reset the device, turn of the mass storage option on it etc? Out of interest, is this the only issue you have with your VF? (you mention others have sound, air, computer issues)

Thanks. "Not compatible with all devices" - that problem disappeared when they said the problem was not related to the iPod "Classic". My issue is with the s/w not supporting proper "indexing" (it can play .WAV). Yes, I (and really good dealer service manager!!!) have performed numerous resets, s/w upgrades etc, and confirmed the problem can be repeated in their cars.

Other problems? From my memory.... External temp reading wrong. Interior temp control not working properly, Radio sound turns off, NAV POI's not turning off, Leak external mirror. Niggles included HUD not good when wearing polarized sunglasses, NAV colours (HSV version) really bad with r/g colour blind (and even though other colours available, they would not change "HSV" colours).
Note that most of these have been fixed with a number of computer updates.

It's rather unproductive to think Apple related issues are all "Holden's problem". You'd also have to have a problem with every other brand of car available too if you wanted to pursue that sort of thinking...

No! I think you are painting with a rather broad brush. I am ONLY talking about the problems as I perceive with the iPod on the VF. Problems I do not habve with other cars.

Reckon if you tried a newer iPhone in your older cars you'd have some sort of functionality problem you'd be unhappy with too...

No, iPhone with latest IOS works quite well with older systems in older cars!

Referring to Holden's website on MyLink compatability, they have only tested some iPhone models for Bluetooth compatability. Meaning they HAVEN'T confirmed any other products of Apple's will function as the buyer may wish.

This has nothing to do with Bluetooth!!! Never mentioned it.

Hence the image "cashie" posted up- "Not compatable with all products". Perhaps buyers SHOULD be testing these things before purchase if they matter so much. Saying this, if the car otherwise suits, perhaps it's better to get an Apple product tested for compatability than it is to bag a car for not suiting your existing phone/media device...

Actually, "Not compatible with all DEVICES". My issue is a s/w issue (indexing), it can play WAV, and in my opinion. for me, I thought that my stand was a reasonable one. You disagree, good for you!

...anyways, to bring these coments back on thread, I wonder if we're being too harsh on the Commodore, the other AU built cars aren't that much better, if at all.

Which is probably why not as many people buy them.

I love big, fast cars, but I feel that the VF has far too many small features that I don't want that seem to cause people trouble.

I feel your pain.

I purchased a new Calais V (V6) 6 weeks ago. HUD wasnt working. Told to bring it back for rectifying the following in inner Sydney. Not rectified. Took it back a second time, told to bring back again, so I did. waited all day, told i cant have teh car back as the whole dash had been removed. Dealership gave me a Hyundai Accent as a temporary replacement. Got the car back again, and now HUD works, but the forward collision alert doesn't work now, the Lane departure warning doesn't work now, the alarm doesn't work, the remote start doesnt work, the remote boot opening doesnt work. Back it goes again. This time after I complain they give me a VF SV6. They bring the car back to me and looks as if everything is resolved. But it isnt. The drivers window is down and wont go back up, then the dash blacks out, resets almost immediately after driving it again the next day, and lo and behold the drivers window now works again. It bizarre. I lodged a complaint with Holden requesting a replacement car, 6 weeks old, multiple faults, less than 4000Km, and a Holden regional manager is inspecting it tomorrow. I will let you know the outcome, but I now have serious doubts about the electricals in this car now after multiple returns, and multiple issues arising. They fix fix one to only reveal another. Seriously not happy with this purchase at this point in time.

Further to this.... got the car back after a two weeks.... drivers side window motor and regulator were replaced, after engineers surmised that there was an electrical spike. Got a call from Holden Customer Care.... any further problems with the car? Happy now? No, not happy Holden. Its a brand new car with multiple faults, and instead of replacing it, it goes back repeatedly for warranty repairs, despite having issues from the very first day. I will never buy Holden again.... they coud have gotten it so right, but instead, got it soooooo wrong.... This car bugs me now, as I instead of enjoying it I am paranoid of what going to happen next with it..... Holden and the dealer sold me a lemon, but neither want to admit it.

Ok, so not really a complaint, but got the car serviced today, and boot release buttons didn't work on the keys, soo... Gave em a call, now we've got to hold the button down for 2 seconds. Software update? Anyone else's the same?

BCM software update - also added a key presence check so the car won't lock if keys are in it.
