Question Road rules and U turns

    Hi All,

With all the near misses with people doing U-turns (another one this morning) do people know the dam road rules....
Or is different in other states ?

    In Victoria it's:
    U-turn
*** When making a U-turn you must give way to all other vehicles and pedestrians ***
U-turns are permitted at intersections with lights unless there is a ‘no U-turn’ sign.

What are people missing, I just don't get it !!

Yeah, not all that long ago we had a female P plater blast us on her horn when she nearly hit us while doing a U turn. WTF??? She of all people should be familiar with the road rules!!

It may have changed since my mate got booked for it, but in QLD you could only do a U turn at an intersection if there was a "U TURN Permitted" sign.

Does lack of manners, respect and patience these days cover it?
Most people just don't give a sh!t anymore. The world is all about THEM.

U turns at Traffic lights are banned in SA. Unless it is the very rare "U turn permitted" sign posted intersection.

That's how it is in WA as well. Will be sign posted, otherwise carries the same penalty as running a red light I believe.

Different in VIC we have "No U Turn" signs at some intersections, the rest are Martin posted, my pet hate since moving to the country are the Pompous Self Righteous Pricks that sit 15 under in the right lane of the Freeway....

If you are unable to drive at the speed limit DON'T go onto a Freeway and if you do keep left...

    lol
That's Perth every day of the week and every lane. Not sure what changed, it's like one day everyone just started going 10km slower than the limit. Does my head in!

I could never figure out why in a 3 lane road people will not use the left lane? Best I can come up with is they don't think they are slow enough? I have been stuck so many times in the right lane behind a car passing a car in the middle of 3 lanes that is traveling about 1 km/h faster than the car in the middle lane all the while people are passing the car I am trying to pass using the left lane? Makes you wonder why manufacturers don't just make rear vision mirrors an optional item as there are a lot of people don't even seem to know that they are there.

Re: Road rules and U turns

In Vic I believe you can do a U-turn anywhere except over unbroken lines or if there is a NO U-turn sign but cars doing a U-turn must give way to everything. There are possibly a few more situations I haven't thought of now but I think that covers the main points.

While a pair of missile launchers isn't do able, I'd love a message bar with some preprogrammed messages such as " keep let you effing moron" and " learn to control your effing speed duckwad"

Commuting on a 110 km/h dual carriageway daily would give those 2 a big workout.
Once saw a cop at night pull out of his hiding spot to chase down a speeder and he took time out to prop in front of a right lane hog and hit him with a message on his light bar, before continuing the chase.

correct.. in Vic a u-turn is allowed anywhere EXCEPT if there is a no u-turn sign
and that is allowed provided the vehicle doing the u-turn gives way to EVERYTHING.. other road users, pedestrians, dog walkers you name it.
