I don't see an issue with co-naming it at all. Most of New Zealand is either named of co-named with the indigenous title.
Hi All, Probably not the correct forum however figured it would get more seen here.
Not sure if it appears elsewhere but here's a link to the story

I agree, I don’t see the problem with co-naming it.
It’s far better to use a traditional type of name than a corporate (sponsor) one which seems to be the trend for a lot of sporting facilities these days.
Leave it as it is.
then fence it off and charge admission![]()
They can call it as they please..Always be Mt Panorama to me!!!![]()
Personally speaking, if the place wasn't famous for the race... the Bathurst Aboriginal Land Council CEO Toni-Lee Scott would not give a sh*t about it, so leave the name as it is.![]()
Mt Panorama is not a corporate name though and I would be just against it if someone wanted to call it Super Cheap or Repco Mountain. The name is iconic in Australia and is becoming more and more renowned around the world. If someone could actually give a reason for the change I'd be all ears but no they just try to sneak it through under people's noses. Leave the name as is. There is no need for it to change as far as I am concerned.
Mount Durka Durka doesn't have the same ring to it...
And neither would you...
They aren't changing the name at all. The white rock Mount Panorama sign is staying. The name stays. The track ownership stays. Everything stays the same bar some recognition of the local indigenous name. If you do some research the local Aboriginals have a lot of history in the Bathurst area so I don't know why you are getting so worked up about it.
The place has a history of calling its suburbs/parks whatever they want. A few years ago I remember the council were tidying up the parks and gazettes and what have you and they found that either Reid Park (or Sulman) both on the way to skyline before McPhillamy actually doesn't exist formally. Some one years ago must have nicknamed the park and it just stuck. I think it may have been Reid Park, not Sulman...too many years ago..cant remember.
