Rolled car

Looking at buying an auction car which has been rolled. Car has a L98 with 6L80E.

When it comes to a car being rolled, obviously that's not good for the occupants, however what does it do for the engine and trans?

Will the engine and/or trans be fragged?

I wish my car was rolled rather than entrusting to moronic Holden service departments who put wrong pads in my HSV ensuring warped discs (at my expense), then re building my engine and leaving the sump plug at finger tight leaking all engine oil after rebuild...so yeah...a rolled car can do no more harm than trusting to the experts...

Dead serious. A rolled car gets covered by insurance. Dud work by 'experts' you just have to cop...and you will always pay....anyway..off topic..

So is there any major mechanical issues from it being upside down for a period of time?

Not really just the intake, vac line hoses need to be checked for ingress of oil etc. As mentioned above depending on any other damage too!

Just remember that once past a certain angle, the oil pickups will suck air. So assume that both the engine and trans have run for some time with no oil pressure.

If the driver was really on the ball, they may have gotten off the gas and turned off the motor, but I highly doubt that. They may have been on the brakes, but the motor will have kept running till they thought to key off, of the fuel system dropped pressure from the car being upside down.

If I was buying the car, I'd be assuming the engine might be "serviceable" but not in excellent condition. I'd also be ready to find the motor is totally shot and take that as a worst case. If it was upside down for a while, even with the engine off the cylinders may have filled with oil. If this was not removed prior to an attempted start, there may be bent rods.

If concerned pull the plugs and have a look before dropping the coin, if you're nice they may even let you do a comp test as in reality you're buying an Engine and Trans!

Look at it on the bright side, if it runs, the aerodynamic modifications might just be enough to get a commodore to 300kmph

Isn't there an auto switching safety mechanism fitted in VE that shuts everything down once it's flipped?
I saw a rolled VE Series2 where not one airbag had deployed, so the auto shutdown (if fitted standard) prolly doesn't work either.

I betcha the owner wished it flipped back onto it's wheels let alone deploying such a mechanism!! That is if the Driver is still with us??
