Mechatron, just stick the 1900 on and you will love it. What size cam have you got in your engine?

Thanks mate.my cam isn't really boost friendly or well liked on this forum. It's a 220/220 581/581 112+4 LSA. I have standard heads with 11:1 comp and a little bit of a cleanup. I will try this cam with the 1900 but unsure of what the results will be

Better than mine! Pretty sure I lose a bit out the pipes, especially considering how loud my exhaust gets on boost... Hardly worth stressing over or the cost of changing to be honest.

True, I'm just hoping that my current cam doesn't lose that much as opposed to the factory LS1 cam.

Also do you hear more whistle or more exhaust at WOT?

That cam will be fine. the only thing I would change is the lsa to 114, but it will be fine as it is. It will scream its head off. Don't go too mad with the boost at 11.1 static. 8psi would be lovely

Also just my opinion of the toothed rear drive was it was just too loud for the street. Even my neighbours said get rid of it. lol
I was honestly a little worried when I first picked up the ute after the install as I didnt expect the toothed belts to be that loud, but now I would never consider changing it. Have been palled over for breath testing, etc several times with zero issues from the authorities, but as stated it is quite a bit louder than the standard set up. Im out of town a bit so I really notice it when I drive around town in built up areas compared to driving on the highway.

Thanks bud. Quick question...if I wanted to lower comp, what is the safest way to do this? Another set of standard LS1 heads?

Mech, you will loose a little boost with the 112 lsa and extra overlap so I would run it as is with 11.1 compression first. Changing heads would be the easiest way to lower compression. I had a stock ls2 (10.9: 1) with 7 psi and it flew. Just don't go too mad with boost as I don't think you will gain a lot because of high cylinder temp. Stock Ls1 is 10.4 :1 I think.

Pretty sure the Stock Ls1 compression is 10.1:1.

I agree, not worth swapping heads at this stage. Even put the 6PSI pulley on and see how it's going. Won't cost you much more to bump it up for the 9PSI pulley as you can pretty much increase the tune across the board and then have a closer look at it. It's not like you're paying for a full tune every time you do little things like that. I'm not sure how if pulleys are available to work up/down in 1PSI increments, you could probably come close in theory but be a bit off in reality.

You hear a bit of both from in the car. If you were outside the car, it would be blower first and then the exhaust would be a lot louder as the car goes past.

Supercharged your LS Engine? Any regrets

Thanks heaps for everyone's replies so far....such great info in this thread. Please also know that I'm really appreciative of everyone's input.

When I do finally go ahead with the charger I'll be going to Sams, so I'll leave it in his hands to determine exactly how much boost my current setup can safely take.

Guys please feel free to keep this thread alive to discuss more supercharged LS setups. Thanks guys

Everytime This subject comes up I think how much I want one , then i just reflect back to to the iron block v8s we ran 'back in the day'

and how getting 400hp was a pain and you ended up with a temperamental pig with a drinking problem that had to be babied or it would crack the sads .

Now we have it from factory or with a couple of tweaks and will still return 10l/100km

Not against it, supercharging , just have never justified it (the justification is an age thing )

What motor you are you putting a blower on? If it's the 5.7 consider the old ones too even the 112 is nice and less head pressure.

I would be happy adding a charger, small cam, upgraded springs and better exhaust to a stock engine but i wouldn't build one to make over say 375rwkw again.
Piss the blower off and just run the 427 , never understood why people go big block blower in one go,

It should be supercharge or big block , then if you're bored with 500hp at the wheels , go the full hog

    It's still a small block!
If the motor was built for boost you may as well boost it. If it's built for big NA power then you'd end up pulling it down again to boost it. May as well do it once and do it right!
