new short block. its an AES 390ci forced induction LS package. for those that really care:
    http://www.aesracing.net/product_info_390LS1.htm

with the ASE T1000 kit, the old L76 rectangular heads, a holley hi ram, some new Lunati double valve springs, a new cam, slightly bigger than the vcm 16 that was in it. GM LS7 lifters, dual row timing chain, mellings high volume oil pump... the front and rear covers off the old motor, old sump, valley plate etc.. i tried to save a few bucks here and there on some things, by using the old parts. wish i could have afforded to have a few parts painted, maybe later. would rather it run at the moment. also have an E boost 2 on its way

car ran a best of 11.1@117mph. it was hitting the limiter before the end of track, because we put a 3.7 diff in. i am chasing a 3.46 diff now. also, ran a few 11.5/6/7's @126mph with a passenger, but once i got a good launch off the handbrake, it hit the limiter at about 50-80 meteres before the end of track. 60ft's were 1.6 or 1.7 for the low 11s and 2.08 for the mid to high 11s. hopefully, i will have it re registered with a reverse cowl on the bonnet by christmas. cant wait to cruise it around

    Re: Vz ss 6.0...

the motor had to come back out. bad machining, and stuffed main bearings. this was just after the last post. it had a small noise which i thought was probably a lifter. turned out it was the pistons slapping in the bores, and it collapsed a few skirts. so, lesson learnt, pay for a local builder to build your motor, because the mericans said "race motor, no warranty", on an engine that was only hours old . so now the motor has been torque plate honed and is true, and is being re assembled by an engine builder in toowoomba, with new pistons and all new bearings, and gaskets etc.

    it never ends

yeah, AES do have a good rep. but the after sales service is shite, mike from AES didnt want to know me after i paid for the short block, and once i said its making noises he said "pull it down and get back to me." we pulled it down, the end float was out by about .006 of an inch, it looked like it had been assmbled dirty going by the state of the mainbearings, and the bores were .002 to tight in the centre. not all the bores though, just a random few. ill post pics of the pistons and bores later, and try find the mainbearings pic as well.

extremely dissapointed. the engine was barely run in. only a few hours old, still i am glad i pulled it apart when i did.

AES built 390 stroker short block. damage pics

scuffed piston. collapsed skirts when measured.

the bores. nice scuff marks up and down them. AES tried to tell me it was due to bad fuel, then it was a tuning issue, then the guy i was talking to on facebook messenger from there blocked me. i didnt even get rude or cranky at him.

strangely enough, it was mostly one side of the engine. but the other side did have damage too.

BTS666.0, I had the same issue with AES except I measured everything before I assembled the engine. I had to get the engine remachined in Australia and sell the pistons that I purchased from AES. They also purposely stuffed up the lifter bores by honing them out too much. The line hone was out a bit as well. The block also had a chip at the top of one bore, but I could over come that by using a 4.100 head gasket. This was all through Fraser Semple from AES. AES also took about 5 months to send parts and was sitting on the money I had paid to them. I have also had second hand conrods sent to me by Fraser Semple when he worked for Speed Inc. They were supposed to be new and had a rod bolt that was stripped. When I complained on Ls1tech.com Semple and AES had me banned fom the Ls1tech.com.
