Not sure Joe, but what I do know if you have any type of towbar fitted to a Calais you need to have GM or the likes adjust the rear cam & rear bar sensor software adjusted for proximity calibration.
I bought a s/h towbar (genuine) with wiring harness. I have worked out the 7 colours that go in the external plug but there are 2 thin wires remaining (a white & a grey). I'm guessing they have to do with the reversing sensors but so far haven't found anything on ::
any ideas?

I just had a towbar fitted to my Senator with front and rear sensors and everything has worked just fine so far. Never been near a dealer but admittedly I haven't had a trailer on so far. When I do I hope it's just a case of going into the menu and changing the relevant setting which I've seen already.
I have a towbar on mine. Hey Wonks, don't you love that there is a Senator-specific towbar!! You need to adjust the towbar setting for the rear park distance via the dash menu. Other thing to remember is that when the car senses that you have a trailer on, it disables both the front and rear park sensors. Pain in the butt when trying to maneuver a caravan into a tight spot by yourself. No idea re those extra wires though. Maybe call a towbar place to be sure.

There is normally a magnet and reed switch in the trailer plug so the rear parking sensors know if the trailer plug flap is open there is a trailer attached and the rear sensors are disabled. This wire is normally a single white wire as it is only a switched earth connection.
The menu item in the cluster only tells the module to ignore to tow bar and ball.

As others have said, there is a simple setting in the menu for the rear sensors when a trailer is hitched. Pretty sure it is in the basic menu, not engineering mode.
Mine is in the normal menu as Hos said, no need to go to engineering mode.
