    VZ SV8 MY06 Production Numbers

First of all, sorry if this has been covered, or something similar, I had a search and couldn't find much info.

So as the title suggests, I've been trying to find some production numbers for my car, last time I was on here, 6 years ago!!!! I had a VY SS, a few cars have come and gone since then, but ATM I've got an Impulse Blue VZ SV8 L76 6.0L.

The wife's been bugging me to sell it, as she hates cars, especially noisy "bogan cars" her words not mine! Thing is, I'm pretty keen to keep it, and also wonder whether these V8's will hold some value, once Holden stops producing them in 2017 or whenever it is. This might be a good argument to take to her and explain that it's not a piece of shit, and it may actually have some value.

I've done some research and found that there were 261,238 VZ Commodores produced, Statesmans were listed seperately, so I'm assuming Commodore covers all models, utes, HSVs etc. So by doing some basic maths on years produced, and different models, I came up with about 1900 06 SV8's. Now that's dividing these numbers equally, obviously there would've been more executives made than SV8's and the same across the board, some models would have larger production numbers than others.

I emailed Holden and asked them, and they said they can't give me numbers for specific models, fair enough I guess, but I'm just wondering if there's any way to figure out the ratios of models produced??

With my pretty rough calcs, I figure there was probably only a couple of hundred Impulse blue SV8's across the country. I've owned mine for almost 2 years, and I've never seen another in Perth.

Anyway, if anyones got some info, or some ideas on how to better figure it out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Cheers.

Not sure on the rarity, but I doubt there would be a lot of them. On another note though, my wife gets cranky as hell if I mention selling my noisy, obnoxious, bogan V8. How keen are you to keep the wife? Joking of course......................

    Sort of.

Part of the deal when I bought my ute was that we keep the Clubby and the Camry went. Now I have two noisy, obnoxious, bogan V8's. What a life!

haha, yeah thought about trading in the wife, might not go down too well! She's just not a car person at all, so it makes it hard when I try and explain to her, that it's not a piece of shit, and there weren't too many made, and if I hold onto it, it might increase in value, or at least hold it's value. It's only just clicked over 100k so it's pretty low for a 9.5 year old car.

I was looking at trying to have the best of both worlds, sell th VZ, buy a little buzz box to drive to work and back everyday, and also an old VN SS to have as a project/weekend car, that also didn't get the response I was after.

I'll do my best to hold onto it for now, my old man just cut out an article he read about the value of V8 Commodores & Falcons going up with the prodution of them to stop soon, so I'll put that with all my other research to try and get her to understand. Likely to fall on deaf ears though......

With so many late model v8 Commodores on the roads I hate to say that value isn't really there, unless of course someone wants to specifically relive their impulse sv8 ownership.

It's all speculation on what's going to happen in prices though, but take a look on car sales, still a buyers market

Yeah I never thought it was going to be valueable like say the old Walkies or VN Group A's, but just mainly wondered how many were out there, and whether they'd possibly hold value, rather than continue to drop like they seem to these days.

I guess they'll probably get to a price where they won't go any lower, no matter how old they get, if something's in good condition, and well looked after maintenance wise, then it'll always be worth something.

ATM I reckon I could get about 10-12 for it, if I hold out and don't take the first offer I got, but for that price, I'd probably rather keep it for a few more years, and maybe get the same later on down the track.

I guess I'm telling all this to the wrong people though, haha.

Put it this way, offload before it's worth squat.

I sold mint vz senator, low klms not a mark unmolested. 10months to sell at most 3-5 on car sales to compare it to and I gave change from 25k. Known as quickest HSV for some time. Apples and oranges I know but they just don't hold anything. Oh and our VE clubby eventually went to a wholesaler for 24k.

I'm sorry, I don't see any run of the mill Commodores going up in value unless you're going to hold it (and by that I mean not even drive it) for another 20+ years.
Even if there's no V8 sedan available in the next couple of years, they're not miraculously going to become sought after. I don't think they'll even hold their value, they'll just continue the slide. You're talking about a 10 year old car here...

There were 7 (seven) made in that combination colour and spec so very rare and if kept in good condition it'll appreciate substantially within a very short amount of time and become quite valuable..

Just messin with ya it's a V8 VZ Commodore it's worth next to nothing and won't ever be unless it's got 5 Km's on the Odo and has been stored correctly for 50+ years..

I knew a bloke that put a v2 Monaro on stands in a bubble brand new. Was a daily as soon as the vz munro was released

I think the combination is very desirable .. VZ = best engine capacity per weight ratio from stock.

It's only desirable if you want to go drag racing. Other than that it's a pretty bare bones car

you can also look at it from this point of view.. its the last of the 'simple' cars.. minimal electrics and other 'junk'.

They're like the HQ-HZ holdens of the past era.. and im still spewing I 'gave' my HX factory 308 manual away...
