    Leaking battery

Was checking my battery today and noticed that one of the cells has a slight leak through the cap. It is the OEM battery and I know it is not long for this life, but just wanting to know if this is dangerous in any way considering the location in VE and onwards. I know I have had this issue in other cars where the battery is located under the bonnet and have just cleaned up the acid regularly and has not been an issue. Am going to replace with Varta E44, but should I expedite this replacement?
Edit: I put my CTEK on it about once a fortnight and it has never let me down, but I know if I run the stereo without car running for more than say 30 minutes I will be running home.

    Whats the fluid level like?
Might be a sign of it giving up the ghost and starting to be a problem. It doesn't look like too much of a concern even with interior location. If you're not comfortable with it then change it out but you could probably clean it up, check the level and keep and eye on it...might get another 6 months or more out of it

Was thinking of doing that, they are a pain in the arse to pull out and check though, so might just replace.

    Re: Leaking battery

is it just that white bit on top or is it running down the side?

try unscrewing the cap clean and re tighten, cap might just be loose.

    What's the voltage read?

Just the bit you can see in the photo. Will pull it out, check fluid and retighten caps and see how it goes.

    Re: Leaking battery

Got the below reply from Battery world regarding my enquiry for a Varta E44, can someone explain what it means? Why does it matter if it is a DIN battery?

    Hi Rod

E44 are a din battery which are a special Audi, Mec, and other European car types

We get these in as needed but for your car the Yuasa battery is what is recommended for Australia.

If you want the varta we can order one in when the warehouse is back at the beginning of 2016

    Thanks

    Re: Leaking battery

What's the price difference? They may be suggesting that the Yuasa is a cheaper option as the E44 is probably a specialised battery and hence higher in price.

Any reason for not going Optima or similar AGM? Won't ever have a leak like this again

I was thinking of going for an AGM, but could not find the correct model in Optima Yellowtop to suit VE.

Have a look at Wonkys thread on same he found one that only needed minor bracket mod to fit in his Senator sedan.

    Re: Leaking battery

Optima D35 is the one you want, I believe Wonky used the D34 and the posts on that one are too far inboard on the battery for the OEM clamps.

    Re: Leaking battery

Well, the battery took over a litre of demin water, so I have it on the CTEK at the moment and will see how it goes over the next couple of weeks. If it dies, nothing lost, will just grab the D35 that was recommended above by dgp. I cannot see any brand on the current battery, just that it is a calcium battery and 600cca.
