Rod![]()
Just crawled underneath and finally located where the vent tube exits, was nowhere near where I thought it was looking from above. Good news is that it just dumped on the bottom of the inner guard, so easy to clean up and no hidden acid up higher
Edit: will spray some more water on it tomorrow just to make sure it is neutralised.
Got a brushless Carwash nearby?
They have an under car sprayer just slow down and maybe rock it backwards and forwards a bit while the car is over it...
Think I'd retire that battery to something not "nice" and throw an Optima at it.
I have a Yellow top I've owned for 12 years, replaced it with a Blue top and dropped it into the Tractor. still working but I did have to charge it the other day as the Tractor hadn't been used in Months..
Also put a Bluetop in the Lexcen when I built it, being Marine they're a bit sturdier so stand up to abuse better.
Great idea, I did give it a good flush with the hose and even sprayed some degreaser around, but one of those under car washes would surely get into every nook and cranny that I may have missedThink I might go the Red top as suggested above, have one on my watch list on ebay.
This one would be straight bolt in?

D27F was what I was told the taxi drivers are now using in VE/WM. It required a very minor mod to the bracket which took the guys only a few seconds to do on the workbench and is far more powerful than that one at 800CCA and 66Ah compared to 720CCA and 44Ah. See http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?169119
It's brilliant! Best battery I've had by far in any of my 3 VEs, including the D34 Yellow Top I had in the ute.
My D27F has put up with everything from the car not being driven (left unlocked in the shed), to the little person that lives with us getting in the car with her DVD and watching about 20 min of a movie with the IGN on Acc. I just have this feeling the car will just start now no matter what gets thrown at it.
It's like the old days of the VL and VK commodores where you could just sit in the car for and hour with the radio on and then just start the car and drive off

It takes 10,000 nuts to put a car together but only one to scatter ‘em all over the road
I'm not sure Rod as given my disabilities I just sat in the car while they did it. Not long after they started they told me they'd have to make a slight mod if that was OK (mine was the first D27F they'd done in a VE as the guy I know at Optima who'd told me about taxis using them was away, so I went to a closer location with good price). They took the bracket over to the workbench, did something to it quickly (less than 30 sec from memory) and not long after it was all done.![]()
I stand corrected. Was looking at wrong battery, D27F is a bit bigger than the 35
D27F = L 300 W 172 H 220
35 = L 237 W 173 H 194
Apparently fitted no problems in mine apart from slight mod to bracket. Can't remember exactly what it cost me now as am only on my phone but was I think $310 - $320 fitted.
Went for a drive in diagnostic mode this morning, alternator charging at 14.7 volts constant when on the move, battery was at 78% when I started car and reached 81.8% after a 5 minute drive to the servo. When I got home I left the stereo running with the ignition on for about 90 minutes and monitored the battery voltage in diag mode, it got down to 11.4 volts and then the next time I looked it was in service charge mode (whatever that means) according to the dash readout. Tried to start car and nothing. Charging it back up with the CTEK now. Will be interesting to see if battery shows 100% once CTEK is finished with it.
I'm no expert but would suggest those readings mean it's past its use by date. Dead cell?
