You reckon it could be the battery Mick? Strange that the old battery was stuck at the same percentage.

What voltage do you get if you put your cluster into engineer mode whilst engine running?
I just thought of something too Rod as the VE's alt is controlled by PCM yours may well have been set to that figure by factory perhaps?

I wasn't aware that you could access engineer mode whilst engine running, I just hold scroll button on LHS of steering wheel and turn on car.

Maybe this figure is just meaningless.

Is quite possibly the % of charge required @ any given time? Mine idling over was giving 14.7 Volts.

Nah Holden wouldn't install a useless feature in their cars.... <sarc> anyone remember the Economy Gauge in the VB's?

Maybe go out and run the check I suggested earlier in the thread and load the electrical system up and see what sort of voltage it's making.

I looked into this straight after you first mentioned it, but cannot see anything in engineering mode that reflects what the alternator is doing. Only has battery percentage and battery voltage.
Will get a decent voltmeter/multimeter tomorrow and do it that way, the one I have is rubbish.

Battery voltage is what I was after, just turn on a bunch of electrical things and see what it does at idle and what it doe at cruise..

Flicks between 14.5 and 14.7 with Stereo and A/C on. Will test again tomorrow with headlights on as well.

Mine can get up as high as 14.5 - 14.7 on the EDI. Can read as low as 12.7 at times.

In the ute I had scangauge permanently connected to the OBD2 port and like DK's mine would range up to 14.7. Haven't bothered hooking it up on the Senator with the gauges and EDI but will take close note today when I go out. From the times when I've just casually glanced at the gauges I'd expect similar readings.

    Re: Leaking battery

Have driven it around for a total of about 90 minutes and 60km today and at one stage it jumped up to a massive 70.1 percent. Parked in the city and listened to stereo for about 15 minutes and when I restarted it was down to 67.8 percent, but after about 5 minutes of driving was back up to 70.1 where it remains. I am wondering if the battery has sat in storage for quite a while (was sent direct from Optima batteries in Vic) and may benefit from a CTEK session? The CTEK manual recommends using snow flake for Optima batteries, so might give that a go.

    Re: Leaking battery

Check the barcode number on the side of the battery.

First number is the year, of manufacture.

Next 3 digits are the day of year, of manufacture.

My Yellow Top D34, first four digits are "4277"

So Manufactured on the 277th day of 2014... which is 4/10/14
