    Problem is with Mustangs being such little stock there is no negotiations. Saying that Ive had my share of HSV's and wanted something different the 340kw R8 would probably compare to the Mustang in performance but I wanted something V8 Rwd and not a run of the mill Dunnydore or Falcon? at 63K Im not expecting 100k car performance or AMG C63 Quality, Its a 63k Ford and will probably be as good as a 63k Holden.

    New member and first post, but I have a little insight into this topic so I thought I'd weigh in.

    I'm here because I just bought a VF SSV ute with Walkinshaw W310 kit and I'm looking for a forum to help with info on it. I've only had it two days but I had to drive to 500+km home from the dealer so I have a bit of wheel time on it.

    Around 5 weeks ago we took delivery of my partner's Mustang GT. It's got about 2,000km on it now and I've driven it about ⅓ of that.

    My take so far between the two:

    Performance is very similar. Both are manual, both a pretty dire trying to accelerate in 6th from 90kmh or so (the Mustang is worse), and both need to be dropped to fourth or even better third to overtake when a gap appears. No biggie but I guess I was a bit surprised how little go there is with what I guess are overdrive gears to try to get some sort of fuel economy. By way of comparison both are noticeably quicker than the Audi S4 the Mustang replaced, and that was quicker than the Boxster S we used to have that rarely got used. They are both properly fast in other words.

    I can't really comment on handling as I haven't had a good opportunity to test either of them on twisties yet.

    The Ute with Walkie exhaust sounds fantastic; deep, rumbling, loud enough but not obnoxious. With the stock exhaust it sounds like a 6 cylinder Euro.

    The 'Stang sounds slightly better inside the cabin than even the Walkie equipped Ute, because Ford artificially transfer the engine sound inside somehow, like the VFII does with the 'mechanical sound enhancer' (mines a VF, not a VFII, and it has a Walkie air box anyway). Outside however the 'Stang has a decent sound but waaaaaay too quiet, and it will be getting something else hung under it to address that in the not too distant future.

    Ride quality is similar on both. The Ute has Walkinshaw lowering springs and it started with the FE2 rather than FE3 Holden suspension. It's also got 20" wheels versus the Mustang's 19". I'm really surprised how well the Ute rides given the setup. The Ford is pretty much what I expected. Both are absolutely fine and within the boundaries of what you'd expect from a performance road car. In other words not horribly hard like a BMW M-car

    Interior quality again seems similar. Both have leather upholstery and use nice shiny aluminium mixed with other textures (brushed aluminium in the ' Stang, fake carbon fibre in the Ute) to make the cabin feel a little more special than a base model sedan. Both use some questionable hard plastics in some places as they are still made to a cost.

    The Mustang feels much more special to sit in than the Ute. No competition here; the Ute is a nice place to be, but the Mustang feels like a more special vehicle.

    The clutch on the Mustang is somehow dead feeling and perhaps overly light. The gear shift is short throw and positive, but certainly with only 2,000km on it it's pretty notchy. The Holden has a longer lever movement forward and back, but otherwise it's much better in both shift and clutch feel.

    Conversely the SSV steering is overly light and lacking slightly in perceived feel because of that. The Mustang has better weighted steering and also some drive modes that make it slightly heavier again. The Ute has a nice, chunky wheel, and the Mustang's is possibly slightly chunkier still. My partner is pretty small but sadly she has never said it's too thick for her hands (nor the steering wheel either ).

    Both have 8" touchscreen infotainment systems. At this point I think the Holden one might be slightly better, but in reality it's like saying sheep sh*t is better than cow sh*t, because they are just 2 flavours of sh*t, and frankly shockingly bad for vehicles launched in 2013 and 2014 given what the aftermarket could do back then. Neither sounds good and both have super-annoying 'features', examples being the Ford one can only support one favourite phone, and it has to be manually told to connect to mine when I drive it for the first time after my partner, even though it's paired - why it can't search for the next phone in the list if the favourite isn't in range is beyond me. The Holden starts playing FM every time the car starts when I have been listening to Bluetooth before I stopped it; I've never had that irritation before. And my Ute is black with a black interior; I'd really like to be able to change the display background to something other than red...

    In terms of other equipment I am utterly confused. Both have cruise control, but neither has adaptive cruise (even as an option, even though it's available on US Mustangs and other VF models). A Redline would have lane keep assist and forward collision monitoring, which again I think is available open US Mustangs, and a Redline or VFII Ute would have HUD. Both have auto lights, but only the Mustang has HIDs. The Ford has auto wipers, but I need a Redline to get that in the Ute (WTF is that about?). The Ford has heated and cooled leather seats, the Holden doesn't even have a heating option. The Holden has blind spot assist, rear cross traffic assist, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera and parks itself. The Ford has rear parking sensors and a rear view camera. Both have partially powered seats (forward/back and up/down on Mustang, lumbar and up/down on Ute) but neither has memory (again WTF is that about?)

    TDLR they both have what seems to me to be a random selection of commonly available premium features with little rhyme nor reason. Holden: I'd take heated seats OR auto wipers in place of a worthless self parking gimmick any day of the week, and is it really necessary to make front parking sensors a dealer fit option that then doesn't integrate with the display like the rear ones, Ford?

    Anyway, if you read this far, well done. The thread so far has been pretty balanced given it could easily become a Ford vs Holden topic and this is a GM specific forum. My take with a little experience of both is that they are pretty much as comparable as the headline stats around power, price and manufacturer position in the market would suggest; the higher end of a mainstream brand with around 300KW claimed power, built to a cost with a random selection of baubles added to make them feel a little more premium than a Mondeo or Cruze.

    Nice review Fen....I own a VF SSV Redline and have driven a new GT (ordered one) and agree both are different yet very similar... Heaps of people rate their best mod on the mustang as A) new exhaust (I have my new Axle backs waiting in my garage) and B) Remove the clutch spring and replace with an aftermarket one for a MUCH better clutch feel (Steeda make a good replacement).

    I have just returned from the states. Dodge Challengers used as HWP everywhere and I spoke to a lot of users. Basically, they like the glitz and glamour but all conceded, if it was a life or death situation where you absolutely had to rely on your vehicle, then they all chose the good ole Crown Victoria.

    From your avatar I assume you've ordered Magnetic? Which axle back did you go for?
