    Brake squeal HELP

Ok, so I have 4 piston Brembo's from a CTS-V or Pontiac G8 fitted front and rear. Now for 8 months these were squeal free and no issues. Recently they started giving a high pitched squeal when cold, but only until you dabbed the pedal a couple of time and then it was gone. Now this started to get annoying at 5:30 in the morning when I head off, so I decided to put it in to Ultra tune and get them checked out. Now they also had a little bit of shudder as well, so we decided to get the discs machined and new pads. So $900 later and with brand new Bendix HD pads I now have permanent high pitched squeal every time I stop, hot or cold. The guys at UT have tried everything, including time on the phone with Bendix techs to no avail. So far they have put some sort of anti squeal gauze on the back of the pads and have also put washers in the pad pins to make sure their is no movement, but still it squeals
Some things of note are that is appears to be only the front, and it can sometime come to stop without doing it, but more often that not it squeals. I also is only with light pedal, if you brake really hard it doesn't do it.

Sorry for the long winded post, but was hoping to tap into the knowledge of this forum for something we may have missed.

Bendix recommended driving it for a couple of weeks and see if it sorts itself out when the pads bed in, not so sure about that as it sound like metal on metal.

Have you given them half a dozen or so really hard applications to get them really hot? Most people don't get performance pads hot enough and they just glaze up. Go from 100 down to 10, hard enough that the abs is almost kicking in. Do it at least 5 or 6 times to get them cooking, if they're really glazed it may need more. Then drive around the block normally to allow them to cool before parking it up. They should also have been bed in like this.

Also check that there is a centre groove and champfer on the edges of the pads.

Personally I have never liked Bendix. 9 times out of 10 they're noisey, dusty and very harsh on rotors.

Thanks mate. I was told the pads have this special blue strip that negates the need for running in. I did however just take it for a spin a did a couple of really hard stops, only from about 80 to zero though. This seemed to cure it until I got back home and then it did it whilst I was turning into the driveway, but only when I turn the wheel. I went back and forward in the driveway holding the pedal just where is squeals and it only did it whilst I was turning the wheel, as soon as I straightened up it stopped, weird.
Funny that it is only the front as well.

When you turn it's probably putting a tiny bit more pressure on one section of the pad or its rattling against the rotor.
I'd check they've got a champfer on both edges and a centre groove. Not sure if Bendix come with them or not. If not, use a grinder and put them on.

Brembos are notorious for squeal. Bit of copper grease on the backing plate of the pads should do the trick though.

The tech from Bendix did tell UT that they are known for squeal due to the way the pads are retained (2 pins in the top of the caliper). They are great for doing pad changes, don't have to remove the caliper. Already have some sort of anti squeal in place, not sure what it is though as they had none left to show me when I picked the car up. Might try some copper grease as well if it does not settle down in the next couple of days.

Another thing that was pointed out to me whilst the work was being done, was that the rear pads for these are not a perfect fit. The pad that is recommended for them, and the only one that we could find that would fit slightly overhangs the rotor at the top of the pad, sort of like it could do with a slightly bigger rotor. The pads are DB1936, and were the pads recommended by Bendix and also QFM when I was running A1RM.

Rod if it's any consolation I just bought new Harrop kit & mine squeal a little when cold, though ok when hot.
Hope you get yours sorted mate.

I went through this with my Harrop 4spots. They began to squeal so loudly dogs would begin howling 3kms away. It was absolutely piercing and I tried everything and ended up replacing almost new OE pads with EBC Red-stuff pads and the problem was solved. That was maybe 7-8 years ago. No problem since

Thanks Seldo, I have had EBC Red and Green in the past on my VT2 SS with zero issues, also with Harrops. Probably should have stuck with them. If I can't sort these pads, I might have to just suck it up and try them again.

Have a chat with Matt at Race Brakes Sydney and see if he can recommend a better fitting pad. He'll also be able to supply a bigger range for the fronts. I also swear by EBC reds

Cant seem to find the DB1936 in EBC Redstuff, found the front DB1678 easily enough, and a lot cheaper than I remember.

I thought I might have still had the EBC box with the old OE pads in it, but must have turfed them... Sorry.

I remember reading somewhere that most of these kits have an undersized rotor. Race Brakes are selling the correct one
