15 Billion it will end up costing VW, - Das Ouch for their Financial department.
The interesting thing will be if all 475,000 owners take up buy back offers - that's a lot of cars to recycle / crush or ship off to some 3rd world country for peanuts.
It's been an interesting year watching this and I eventually did run out of pop corn.
15 Billion, I now wonder when the movie will be out on this amazing German engineering saga ? ;-)

Volkswagen Australia says the software upgrade, which removes the controversial program designed to cheat an emission test on a rolling road that is specific to the US and replaces it with new engine control parameters that have no effect on the performance, fuel economy or harmful exhaust outputs, is immediately available for 35,000 vehicles in Australia with the remainder to be rectified within months.

Explains it rather well.
.. why am I NOT surprised by this
Volkswagen's emissions cheating scandal has taken another twist, with some drivers now saying the company's software upgrade is causing problems with their cars.
Key points:
VW offered drivers a software update to after the dieselgate scandal in 2015
Some VW owners say they have experienced a range of problems since the 'fix'
VW says testing has shown the software has no impact on fuel efficiency
More than 100 drivers have contacted the law firms running class actions against Volkswagen, complaining about a drop in fuel efficiency and performance after having the upgrade.
The software upgrade was implemented after revelations in 2015 that Volkswagen made cars, including 90,000 sold in Australia, that were fitted with software designed to cheat emissions tests

Whilst 100 drivers is hardly a news worthy number IMO, my old man's Amarok was noticeably down on power and a little thirstier when his got flashed with the update. But it's to be expected. If it needs to make less emissions than chances are it's going to make less power and use more fuel to do so.
...If you're not happy with it, get an aftermarket tune done.
